Losing her friends was the start of a self-destructive spiral for Sunset Shimmer. Convinced that she will never escape the echoes of her past, she tries to take her own life.

The attempt leaves her severely injured and she falls unconscious. In her dreams, she is visited by Princess Luna. They have much to discuss, whether Sunset likes it or not.

In the elite circles of Canterlot, cultured music is one of the essential luxuries for anypony with status. Octavia Philharmonica is one of the foremost classical musicians in Canterlot. Her music is at the very pinnacle of her profession, her performances highly sought after, and her talents attract a steady string of wealthy and influential patrons. Her talent, however, is not always enough on its own; occasionally, her job demands more.
