For the ponies of Equestria Celestia is a brilliant ruler. An individual shining as bright as the sun itself.
However, on the inside, she carries great tragedy, which surfaces whenever the princess is left alone with her thoughts and always brings a wave of depression with it.

One night, such a wave is interrupted by a filly Twilight knocking on the Princess' door. She had a nightmare.

The student will not be the only one finding comfort in the situation.

It's summer time for Sunset Shimmer. After a long year of studies, magical misfortunes and such, Sunset goes on a solo trip to the city of Philadelphia. While in the city, someone offers her a ticket to the preseason opener of the Philadelphia Eagles. Sunset isn't much of a sports person, but she figures she should engage in one of the city's past times while she's there. What's the worst that can happen?

Note: Story takes place between seasons 4 and 5 (and was drafted prior to knowledge of "Make New Friends but Keep Discord".)

Discord’s miffed that Princess Celestia doesn’t seem to have extended him a ticket to the Gala—he thought they were friends! (Though maybe he understands a little, considering his recent betrayal, even if he did make things right in the end). However, when she shows up to not only give him his ticket in person but to ask him to be her personal escort for the evening, Discord is surprised (and then smugly satisfied) to say the least…that is until Rarity decides that Celestia’s invitation was clearly her asking Discord out on a date.

Discord dismisses the idea however as he has plenty of other things on his mind at the moment—ponies at the Gala will certainly be talking about Tirek, and how can he face their questions when guilt about what he did is bothering him so much that he can’t even talk about his mistake with his friends? And what is he supposed to do now with his life since he’s finally fully reformed?

Pretty soon Discord’s worries spill over into his dreams—many random dreams…and many random dreams specifically about Celestia. What is his subconscious trying to tell him? And why does Celestia keep trying to get closer to him? It’s all leading up to the most chaotic night ever when Discord will show up at the Gala arm in arm with Celestia and ready to face the world as the ‘REFORMED reformed’ Discord!

In the wake of a great tragedy, Celestia opens up, and, for the first time, tells her own story. For the first time, she tells what happened with Discord and King Sombra. And, for the first time, she tells what it's like to have to give up everything she's ever had, everything she's ever wanted, everything she's ever dreamed of--all of it, for the good of Equestria.

Please note: this is an "AU-ish" fic--that is, it sticks to canon in most respects, except when it doesn't.

Having waited all night to meet Starlight Glimmer and her new friend, Princess Celestia finally gets the opportunity to do just that when Twilight eventually returns with her pupil in tow. Within the halls of Twilight's castle, four ponies sit to share stories, worries, and declarations of friendship.

Spoilers for No Second Prances.

Though overtime legends may change, and fade from consciousness, they are never gone, and there will always be at least one who remembers to honor their contributions. This is the tale of one such hero, of which Celestia keeps close to her chest.

Written in tribute to the late Raiden Fireblade, may he find happiness and rest. As well, this is a gift to my close friend, Foals Errand, so as to help her a little with these hard times. She also preread for this story.
