Celestia tells Twilight how power really works in Equestria:

Applejack and Fluttershy are going out on a date to celebrate the anniversary of them being a couple. This surprises Twilight Sparkle greatly. Not because she can't believe it's already been a year since such a clearly important event in the life of two of her best friends, but by the fact that she didn't even know they were dating to begin with. How could she have missed that? Surely her other friends will have the answer, right?

The Dazzlings have experienced a long and unique life, filled with ups and downs. Some times more interesting than others. But when someone live as long as they have, and seek fame and power as they have, then there are chances of being found out. More so now that there are people who know about their long lives.

So when Twilight "Sci-Twi" Sparkle shows up at the door, holding up a copy of an old picture and wanting answers, Adagio Dazzle is more than happy to give them.

Death learns that Princess Celestia and Princess Luna will be retiring after nearly a thousand years as rulers of Equestria and he couldn't be more happy about it.

Every time Twilight sits down for breakfast lately, the world needs saving. All she wants is to eat her breakfast just once in peace. At Sugarcube Corners, Twilight orders a freshly baked, blueberry muffin from a certain gray mare with a talent for making muffins. When Celestia appears to send Twilight to save the world, she encounters a small hiccup in that plan.
You see, Twilight is eating muffins. The end of the world can wait.

Gallus is having a sort of identity crisis. Not having a family has made him wonder where he came from, and being at The School Of Friendship has made him conflicted about where exactly home is for him. Silverstream knocks on his door and they talk.

Inspired by the song "Fix A Heart" by Demi Lovato. Chapter title is a lyric from another Demi Lovato song "Give Your Heart A Break".

In the Crystal Empire, Flurry Heart has gotten her cutiemark and it's an...apple?
Why is that so funny to Twilight?

Based on Letters from an Irritated Princess by Tired Old Man, written in the same format, with the same sort of thing going on more or less, but, with said letters written by the Evil Empress, Daybreaker herself, instead of her goody-goody counterpart. Permission for this was given to me by Tired Old Man himself!

Ah, letters. To some, letters are a means for friendly, long distance communication. To others, they are a way of informing you that you are late on your monthly payment. But, for Empress Daybreaker? Well, they're a way of expressing displeasure, annoyance, evil amusement, ransom demands, and other things.

Basically, they're for making her subjects twitch in fear. Lots of fear. Whether it be of her wrath, or the horrors her evil mischieviousness will bring to her subjects.

Guard
noun

1. a person who keeps watch, especially a soldier or other person assigned to protect a person or to control access to a place.

There is more to a Royal Guard than meets the eye. Capturing crooks, chasing ruffians, fighting monsters, stopping assassinations, and protecting the Princess with all their worth -- with a thousand years of peace time, they have become more and less. But the future is uncertain, and within the horizon, the dark storms are a brewing.

Aiming to become a Royal Guard had never been Twilight's first choice of career -- it certainly was not what Mom and Dad wanted her to be. Still, that didn't stop Twilight Sparkle to pursue that dream. Now that she was one, she had to deal with monsters, cultists, vengeful ghosts, prickly teammates, forgotten childhood friends, and a Sunset Shimmer. Not exactly what she had expected out of her military career in peaceful Equestria, but perhaps it wasn't far off from what she wanted.
