CHAPTER 12 PROGRESS:
Stage: First draft
Word Count: 8,250
Woohoo! Happy Fallout day and sixth, count it, sixth anniversary of Of Shadows! I recall mentioning in a blog post before the five-year anniversary that I was gonna get some art commissioned to celebrate the occasion, but it didn't end up happening. I had a very similar plan for this year and missed it again, but I think next year will be right time for one. Hopefully the idea I have in mind will be entertaining!
First of all, I have to say that the ending of chapter 11 was a reveal I've been waiting about five years to write, and it was so incredibly cathartic to at last put it to metaphorical paper. Cadance has long been a character I planned on including in my story, and though she went through a few different iterations in the planning stages, I'm really satisfied with how she's turned out so far in the final version. The ensuing conversation that will kick off chapter 12 is one of the most important that's happened so far, and I'm really hoping that it reads the best it possibly can, so it's getting a lot of editing attention hehe.
The second half of the chapter caused me a bit of grief for about a month, but recently I found a perfect solution to get around my writer's block and properly outline out both 12 and 13. They're going to be fun, utilizing scenes and settings that have been cooking for a long time.
May-October Changelog:
General changes:
-Improvements to spelling and grammar throughout.
Chapter 3: A number of minor updates have been made to character dialogue in chapter 3, primarily regarding Tough Sell's description of stimpaks. Guilty Pleasure's dialogue with Quillwright has also been shortened slightly to more subtly hint at the potential relationship between her and Willow.
- Wow, there is a third-person horror game renaissance coming soon! The Callisto Protocol, Dead Space Remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil 8's third person mode, Silent Hill 2 remake, Alone in the Dark… it's very exciting! Dead Space is a series I love and RE4 is already brilliant, so I can't wait to experience the modern takes on them.
- Thought I might share some YouTube recommendations for those who might be interested:
-Fascinating Horror, a channel that "tells the true stories behind some of history's greatest disasters... but without sensationalism or disturbing imagery." Great production value and narration, genuinely fascinating stories (many of which I've never heard of), and a unique focus on highlighting how the accidents or disasters affected the world afterwards, like new laws, regulations, safety measures, etc.
-Schnee is an individual who makes great fiction analysis videos. I first found him through his many excellent videos about Arcane (which is still worth a watch if you missed it), but he's also covered more since then including Stranger Things and Lord of the Rings.
-TriangleCity's endless amount of cut content videos (mostly focusing on New Vegas but including lots of Bethesda RPGs) are a joy to watch. Learning the sorts of sacrifices developers had to make for the sake of time or hardware limitations are really interesting to me.
Thanks for reading!
