I've been binging old Muppets content of late b/c reasons. Presented without further comment:
Twilight = Kermit the Frog. Organized, likes things a certain way, corrals and orchestrates the others.
Pinkie = Fozzie Bear. Self-consciously tries to entertain the others.
Rainbow = Gonzo the Great. Daredevil with limited self-preservation instincts; blue.
Rarity = Miss Piggy. Dramatic, high-maintenance diva.
AJ = Sam the Eagle. Grounded, straightman to the others' zaniness, a bit of a wet blanket?
Fluttershy = Scooter. Secretly the only reason the entire show isn't a goddamn dumpster fire.

I loved watching some of the old Muppet Show
Long ago in the before time, GreyGuardPony (rest her soul) shared an idea with me about the Mane 6 (plus Spike and OC Skitch-Sketch) visiting the set of Muppets Tonight. She hadn't developed the idea very far, but she did have a gag where Rarity is attempting to fit Ms. Piggy for a dress, while Piggy kept insisting she was measuring wrong because there was no way she was that big.
Just reminded me of that is all. Good times.

That Rarity gag sounds exactly on-brand for both of them. Hm... I wonder if there might be potential for a full fic there, writing the story as a series of sketches instead of proper scenes...
Does that make Luna and Celestia the Statler and Waldorf now that they're happily retired and can throw peanuts at the stage?
But can she be trusted around chickens?
We would also accept Pinkie as Animal, barely restrained source of chaos and excellent drummer.

I'm inclined to think yes, the potential was there, but that may be mostly because GG could turn anything into a full story.

Yeah. I could see all of that. Plus, of course:
Spike would be Robin (hard-working family to Twilight, but because he's one of the youngest, he isn't always treated as seriously as he would like to be)
Discord would be both Statler AND Waldorf (the biggest heckler of the group, yet, as much as he makes fun of them, he still shows his support by being there a heck of a lot more often than you would think - usually in the best seat in the house)
The Cutie Mark Crusaders: The Electric Mayhem (enough said)
Doctor Hooves/Time Turner and Muffins: Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker (main mad scientist and his faithful, if accident-prone assistant)
