Thoughts on Maud Pie · 2:59am October 4th

This is the episode where we meet Maud Pie, which goes into a discussion on autism. I know many people on the spectrum, and it's great to see the show explore hard it is for people with autism to make friends. I don't have autism; instead, I have CPTSD, which, along with other insecurities, made it difficult to make friends. The pain of dealing with these issues and realizing that you're different is difficult. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't stop trying to look for people to be friends with or socialize with. I personally was able to shed my insecurities, but people can't just change on a dime or not be autistic. We should all try to make an effort to be friends with people who are different. But at the end of the day, sometimes it doesn't work, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't stop trying to find others willing to accept you. It was bold for My Little Pony to have a character who has difficulty making friends. I'm so glad the episode didn't "try to fix her" or make her into a Pinkie Pie clone. I don't know the writers as well as other reviewers. But, they seem to have put a lot of thought into this episode to ensure it didn't come out as an insensitive to people on the spectrum, and they should be applauded for that.

Back to Maud Pie as a character. She would be hard to latch to as she has an expressionless attitude. Still, outside of Pinkie Pie's biological family, I have to say she is my favorite character in her family. She accepts Pinkie Pie fully for who she is and respects her other friends for not being friends with her as they don't have many interests. She also seems very "down to earth" and keeps a level head when she saves her sister without a second thought. Also, it was heartwarming to see she's kept all of her candy rock necklaces that Pinkie Pie sent her for the love of her sister despite not liking candy. Goes to show she can express herself in her own way.

Random thought

Maud Pie grinding a boulder to dust is a great example to show that Earth Ponies are magically strong. I mean, Applejack can buck apple trees, and Pinkie Pie has repeatedly shown feats of strength. I just think this is usually overlooked.
