    Dreams of ponies

Last night I dreamt that Hasbro made a whole G5 movie special using AI voices for the New Mane 6. And everyone was shocked when they watched it

The relationship between Trans Girls and Femboys is kinda like the relationship between Australia and New Zealand.

CALLING IT NOW: Misty is going to reform and join the G5 Mane cast. · 5:55am Oct 1st, 2022

Sorry if this comes as a shock but...it can be safely considered canon that G5 will have a cast of 6 main characters. At the end of EverfreeNW 2022, con staff inadvertently spilled the beans that next year's con may feature the VAs of the "G5 Mane 6" (and I quote). Currently there are five ponies: Hitch, Sunny, Pipp, Zipp, and Izzy. Who is the sixth!?

I'd like to present the case that #6 will be Misty.

Misty pasted a cutout of herself onto this poster and hung it secretly in her room where Opaline can't see. She gazes at it every night and imagines if she could join them. Just imagine it!

***MINOR SPOILERS BELOW***

After watching the first 8 episodes of MYM Chapter 2, I have to say I'm pretty impressed by the quality of the storytelling, and I get vibes of FiM in many of the episodes. However, the character that pleasantly surprised me the most is...Misty, the rather-unwilling servant to the evil Queen Opaline.

In the 8 episodes of MYM #2, she is sent by Opaline on countless missions to steal artifacts or to intercept the Mane 5, and she always finds some hilarious way to screw it up...even though she tries very hard. This makes her so likeable/adorkable that I'd argue she's the best antivillain we've seen in MLP.

Episode 8; Misty tries to kidnap Sparky and it ends up becoming like a Home Alone sort of situation. For an infant, Sparky is one smart dragon.

At the end of the 8th episode (the season finale? I'm not sure?), we see Misty crawl into bed and cry that Opaline has a "cold heart".

I had a soft spot for Misty throughout the show, but I really felt for her at that moment. :fluttercry: It's clear that she's not crazy about living with Opaline. And unlike Cozy Glow, Misty seems to genuinely want and value friendship with the Mane 5 (for example, at the unicorn sleepover). The point of this? Misty is a villain ripe for reformation. You can't get any riper for reformation than Misty--Sprout doesn't even come close.

This, added with the fact she's getting so much screen time (even more than some of the Mane 5!) makes me think the writers want us to get acquainted with Misty for a very good reason.

The G4 Mane 6 (initially) famously had two earth ponies :ajsmug::pinkiehappy:, two unicorns :twilightsheepish::raritywink:, and two pegasi :rainbowwild::yay:. (Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.) Misty, if she joined the G5 Mane cast, would naturally become the second unicorn in the group of six.

Why not Sprout?

Many people believed that Sprout would join the Mane cast to create the New Mane 6. But after watching Make Your Mark I have little hope in this theory. He got no screen time in Make Your Mark, and just enough screen time in Make Your Mark #2 to convince me that he didn't die in a gulag for his crimes. :pinkiesick: Although Sprout is supposed to be a reforming villain (sentenced to community service doing Hitch's dreaded litter-pickup), notice how he fails to connect with the Mane cast in the show. Hitch, Sunny, and friends's interaction with Sprout are extremely limited compared to with, yep, you guessed, it, Misty.

Why not Sparky?

It did occur to me that Sparky might be #6 in the New Mane 6. Sparky is featured in the theme song's end screen, after all. But unlike his distant cousin Spike, he is a non-verbal infant. His hijinks offer lots of comic relief and he is definitely a very strong supporting character, but I don't think he can meaningfully communicate with the rest of the ponies to truly become a member of the Mane cast. I find it hard to imagine him delivering friendship lessons when he can barely sit still for two minutes. If he were older, perhaps he would a stronger contender.

EverfreeNW is scheduled for August 2023. Provided what was said at EverfreeNW 2022 is true, and this headcanon about Misty is true...it is highly possible we'll see Misty reform and join the Mane cast before next summer is out...!

Long story short. Misty was one of the best surprises of the latest Make Your Mark episodes. I cannot wait to see where her character development goes, and I will wager that Misty will join the Mane cast before 2023 is over. :pinkiecrazy:

EDIT: there's one already!

Why can't it be Sprout :raritycry:

I can see Misty becoming a reluctant member of the main cast in season 2. I don't see her revealing her turning on Opaline until after Opaline makes her big move, leaving Misty in a difficult position to choose between the loyalty between her new friends or loyalty with the one who she feels she owes a debt.

I could see Sprout joining the main cast too. He wasn't a villain, he was an antagonist. I see him becoming the Trixie of the group, he's a bit of an egomaniac, a bit of a blowhard and definitely has a skill set that could help Sunny and her friends. Maybe if Opaline attacks, he could rebuild his mech to attack and provide a distraction so that the ponies of Maretime Bay can flee to safety. It would even be a big redemption arc for him to sacrifice himself to save the Mane 5, and they think he was killed, when in reality he is captured by Opaline and is held prisoner. It could even be a way for Opaine to torment Sprout by showing him in her magic reflecting pool the ponies of Maretime Bay holding a memorial service for him.

An interesting aspect to Misty, which may or may not necessarily be real, was the apparent allusion to her malnourishment. I at first found it perplexing that the story, repeatedly, drew attention to how much she was eating at the sleepover, and what she was eating, and how she was eating. It didn't see to be just for laughs. Coupled with how Opaline treats her, I started thinking that this was a kid-friendly or kid-filtered allusion to an abuser starving or at least refraining from adequately providing for their abuse victim. That's dark, but also compelling.

If people don't want her to be a member of the Mane Six by her personality alone, I can see people wanting her to be a member because it's a healthier healing path.

Yeah, this sounds rather plausible to me.

The entire relationship between Opaline and Misty very much seems to be an abuser and her victim.

Misty deserves far better then this, and while it's pretty obvious she'll become reformed especially since she's already having her doubts that Opaline is all there is that can get her what she wants in life, i still hope it comes sooner rather then later, so she can be around those that actually care about her rather then manipulate her for their own gain.

I agree. Abusive relationships is something we didn't really see much of in MLP until Misty came. Misty and Opaline is definitely a great way to teach kids about toxic relationships that they may face in their lives, e.g. school bullies, boyfriends/girlfriends, or mean bosses.

Seeing Misty eating up all the pony-corn made so happy!

Sunny Starscout, Misty [Night?]

More like Sunny Starscout and Izzy Moonbow. Reminds me of another famous sun/moon pony duo...:trollestia:

Misty struggled when she had to say her last name at the unicorn sleepover, implying she either doesn't have a last name (which was quite common in G4, but I guess not in G5) or perhaps it's Opaline, the name of her adoptive mother. "Misty Opaline." :fluttershbad:

Called it HAHA :rainbowwild:
