"Ancestral Tribute" Challenge Report: First Draft Begins! · 2:49pm Sep 20th, 2022

Blog Number 194: "Life Resumes" Edition

Thus ends the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Regardless of your views on the monarchy (myself, I'm an old-school republican), yesterday was definitely a historic moment. Besides, I'm not impervious to a beautifully dignified ceremony.

Ponyfic-wise...?

I'm entering a contest about parents. Why wouldn't I write about these two? :rainbowkiss:

Basically, I'd already come up with my fanfic idea shortly after FanOfMostEverything announced the Ancestral Tribute contest nearly two weeks ago. I don't hang about!

Unfortunately, I was already working on a prior project when that happened. Neither did I want to give it up so easily, which is why I stuck with it and tried to finish it first. My initial hope was that I'd finish the prior project quickly and then be free to leap onto my first draft for the contest, all with a seamless switch of gears.

Turned out it took at least another week plus before I had Midnight Bloo up and running, cutting out one of the five weeks I'd wanted for writing. Um... oops!

Alas, it also coincided with the date for Queen Elizabeth II's funeral, which I was fixing to watch (from home: I didn't see the appeal of joining the queues along the route) with my family. So once Midnight Bloo was out of the way, I also had to set aside time for that. Which also meant slamming down on the brakes for a day.

At least both of those priorities are behind me now. Hence I can finally delve into my competition writing. Can I get back up to speed, I wonder?

As for what I'm writing: well, the fine detail I won't spoil just yet. Suffice it to say that I've already written an opening scene for the first planned draft, and the whole thing will focus on (you guessed it) the perfect pair from "The Perfect Pear". If you want more than that, you'll just have to wait till it's completed. :raritywink:

Hopefully, this next project won't end up taking more time than I thought. You better believe I'm just getting started! The race is on!

Yes, I'm going as far as I can with this year's contest, if only to make up for last year's attempt stumbling on the home stretch. Fingers crossed this year will see more impressive results. :rainbowdetermined2:

Well, that's all for now. My plan is to make regular updates over the coming weeks so that I (and you lot) can keep track of the competition drive*. Last year I managed to keep it regular until halfway through, when I got derailed and the results became choppy. This year, I'm hoping to keep it regular throughout.

* To outdo my former performance: after all, the best person you compete against is yourself.

Still, we'll see how it goes.

Till next time, Impossible Numbers out!
