Although Lee is actually talking about the remake of The Wicker Man here, I think the sentiment fits. Seriously Disney, just stop remaking your entire animated catalogue!

Some of the complaints that I read about the trailer is that everything looks dark. There are no underwater effects such as bubbles and blue hue.
Unsurprisingly, people make a big deal about a mermaid being portrayed by a black actress. A mermaid is a mermaid, regardless of the colour of their skin.
While I'm not interested anymore to watch live-action cashgrab remakes, considering the mixed to negative reception of recent ones such as Dumbo, Aladdin, The Lion King, Mulan, and Pinocchio, I honestly feel so sorry for Halle Bailey and the unnecessary hate that she's getting, simply for her role as Ariel. I hope that all of the hate doesn't discourage her completely.
Couldn't they at least have kept her hair red? Why are redheads being erased from media? Oh well, never planned to watch this anyway. I don't see the point of live action versions, which exist solely for cash grabs.

Some people pointed out that Halle's hair is a darker shade of red. Though it's hard to see because of the underwater background that's way too dark.

Ah, I see! Couldn't make it out at a glance, wonder if they'll brighten the film for the finished product?

Same here. It honestly boggles the mind that people seem to struggle with the idea of a mermaid being Black. Getting back to the point, I just don't see the point of this remake. Cinderella (2015) kinda works because that's a new adaptation of the same source material, not just a shot-for-shot remake of an animated film (Beauty and the Beast, Alladin, The Lion King, etc.).

Well, the underwater world is naturally quite dark. Hence why angler fish carry their own lights with them.
