I like writing about the worst day of a character's life; it lets us see the mettle inside. (Pronouns: RB/20 )

Kid: We learned about "SPQR" in ancient Rome.

    Me: Romanes eunt domes!

    Always worth a re-read

I just re-read, for the sixth or eighth time, one of my all time favorite books:
Neptune's Inferno: The U.S. Navy at Guadalcanal, James D. Hornfischer

    Bibliophilia across generations

Kid: Daddy, I want to go to Barnes and Noble, please.
    Me: Sure. Why?
Kid: I want to read the first book in the "Warrior Cats" series.
Me: Reading is always encouraged in the house. Get in the car.

    <six hours later>

Kid: Finished! Can we order the next few books in the series?
    Me: <pride>

    Today I learned...

I've been playing Civilization games since the late 90s, with Civ2. I've learned quite a bit of history tidbits from them.

How old am I? · 9:41pm Sep 12th, 2022

Answer: too damn old for this shit.

My kid's homework literally said to look up a word...

...at dictionary dot com. Not in, like, the dictionary.

To be fair, in modern times, you can expect pretty much everyone to have some form of internet access, while dictionaries are far rarer. Besides, children rarely carry a dictionary around, so teaching them how to look up words in a way they will almost always have access to makes sense.

You've reminded me of the fact that everyone is expected to have a mobile device now as well.

I tried to make a youtube account after long since losing access to my old one, and old one's email, but now you have to have a phone number to make one, and i have no damn phone because i can't afford one nor justify the cost of owning one even if i wanted to.

The world has lost its mind.

True, although we set up kiddo's homework sanctuary as specifically electronics-free, so we had to fetch an iPad LOL.

And Luna help you if you have a sudden need (or desire) to consult an actual encyclopedia.

OK yeah that's bad.
Makes me think when i was dealing with some work experience kids

one called the # key the hashtag key.

You can get a Google voice number for free, and it even gets texts and voicemail so it should work for two factor authentication. Just a suggestion ☺️

What will the children of today use for "back in my day" stories with their grandchildren?

"Back in my day, we didn't have things beamed directly into our brains! We had to use our eyeballs! To read!"

To be fair, there were already way too many names for that symbol.
