Story signal boost: Look At That Guy!!! · 9:26pm Sep 8th, 2022

Ever wonder what it's like to be the only one on the outside of the spontaneous musical number...?

Having a phobia of spontaneous musical numbers doesn't exactly help.

This one was pointed out to me, and -- it pretty much had to be, because this story has two major problems: the title and short description. Three exclamation points is halfway towards insanity (although to be fair, so is the musical number), and when it comes to the SD itself... we're looking at a solid product, but the advertising needs some work. I'm not sure I would have come to this on my own.

It's also a slow starter, but I'm just about the last person on the site who can try to put that across as a complaint with a straight face.

This is the author's first story. It's also a first story working with G5, which means really going at it alone -- or trying to be present at, if not the changing of the guard, then at least for the sharing of the locker room. It's a story which has a few things working against it.

But it's very much a pony story. And when it comes to initial offerings from new writers, those don't come along every day.

So if you're willing -- go ahead. Look At That Writer.

"The new needs friends."

I've just recently (and finally) read the Versebreakers anthology, so this one catches my eye. Thanks for mentioning it!

Its pretty fun AND highlights the lovecraftian horror of suddenly being snatched up into something beyond your control.

Also, ya know, Xenophobia sucking. However that's pretty much standard and doesn't really need to be highlighted. Right...right?

oh, "versebreakers" reminds me of a gag in that crazy story collection "mlp time loops" where someone sabotaged the sheet music of the Sirens (in EQG), then Twilight and her friends sang a silly "versebreakers" song...to the tune of the Ghostbusters theme!

Thanks for the recommendation; I don't have time for it today, but I've put it on a list, at least.
