Trudge Runners and other Stuff · 3:46pm Aug 20th, 2022
Hey all, so I know only a hand full of you have been keeping an eye on it, but so far I'm doing pretty good with this Trudge Runner's fic, as I've still got several buffer chapters to get me by for several more weeks.
So, some of you might be questioning me, because let's face it, I have a horrible track record for long fics. So, how committed am I?
I bought an actual, authentic parts catalogue for the UAZ 469 (nice).
Crazy, right? So there's a reason for this.
In both Spintires and Mud Runner, you can damage your vehicle, however it's just a total damage bar, which just is an overall condition of the vehicle. Nothing specific. However, in Snow Runner, they changed it, to where you can have specific parts of the vehicle be taking damage. It breaks it down by major component, with (so far for me) most of the body damage just cosmetic for realism.
So this is one of those things I plan to do, only obviously have it be a bit more real, with actual parts failing, breaking, needing replacing.
So the next question, obviously, is why a parts catalogue, not a repair manual?
Simple, really. I can't find one in English.
A parts catalogue, while not showing the theory of operation or explaining parts, gives you a blown up detailed breakdown of each component, to which someone mechanically inclined such as myself can use reasoning and common sense to put together how something might work in particular relation to something else.
I plan to do this with a few other vehicles, providing I can find the literature, but even though I got this book fairly cheap, the only purpose it is to me is for this story. I don't think I'd ever get the chance to own one, but from the youtube videos I've seen man would it be fun.
So, now that that's out of the way, onto other things!
I know in a previous blog post I said I got a list going of what my goals are, and what stories I need to focus on and keep moving forward. So far, work has been a real pain in the ass, and I didn't get the raise I was expecting (it was kind of insulting, to be honest), so while I'm not planning to quit and move on, I will be putting my feet in the water, asking around other companies at my airport, as well as others in the area, or possibly closer to me.
So with that information in mind, I am trying to work on other stories, but with my only fun lately being playing Snow Runner, and writing Trudge Runners whenever I need a break... it's not going as well as I'd hoped.
With that in mind, I just want people to know that even if there will be periods of me being absent, I'm not gone. I'm a one trick pony, if you would take the pun. I've gone and picked MLP Gen 4 (possibly 5 if I ever get around to watching it) to be my niche, my home. This is the fandom I'm stuck in, for better or worse.
I know many of you are patient with me, but every week I see more and more people putting stories like The Whittler into a dead stories folder, and it sucks.
It's not dead, I just have to figure out how to work in corrections to mistakes, things that either I'm unhappy with as the years went by, or things YOU readers aren't happy with.
Oh, and a last bit, I'd like to start playing L4D2 on Steam again. It was always fun, and I managed to drag Fregz into a game a few weeks ago. If anyone else is interested, my steam info is on my Fimmy Fic page, feel free to add me and hit me up.
With all of that said, thanks to those enjoying Trudge Runners so far, and for everyone who's been sticking with me through all these bouts of dead air and static.
Until next blog post,
See ya!
Sorry work's been difficult for you; good luck, with that, writing, and in general.
It'd be funny if our intrepid adventurers couldn't find one in English either...
