August update, or how quickly things can turn sour. · 8:24pm Aug 19th, 2022
Long story short: things went downhill pretty quickly after my last blog. I haven't been well.
Okay, that's an exaggeration. Work's been great. Work's been interesting, a little slower with the summer holiday. And I finally took a day off just for myself, not to try and work on anything, but to force myself to go out into the world. In the middle of a heat wave. Went pretty well, too: got some new comic books, including Doom Patrol and a collection of "Aurora and Ulysses: Centaurs," which I cannot recommend highly enough if you ever get the chance to peruse it state-wise. It might be illegal in the states, though, for reasons you'll see when you Google it and the FBI sees the cover of the thing. Definitely illegal in Canada and Australia, I'm pretty sure... your loss.
But yeah, a lot of stuff happened in the first few weeks of July. Like, a lot a lot, a laundry list of things to worry about just unrolled itself and my dumb brain soaked it all in. I haven't started a single workday following a night of restful sleep since July. My jaw is acting up again and occasionally it's bad enough I can feel it in my inner ears. The only things that stop the worrying are: indulging in gaming, which ends up hurting my joints; or alcohol, which... obviously isn't a long-term solution either. Thankfully, some of the worries have eased up a little by now. Not entirely, but it's a start.
And still, work is great.
Anyway, enough about that. How have the plans gone, otherwise?
-Story-wise, I'm just about done, just three scenes I need to look at and redo, critical story-defining ones. I also still cannot write a combat scene I'm happy with in an original setting, so looking into fixing that.
-Art-wise, some progress, some experimenting, but same issue: I'm not happy with it. Not even on a technical level, the new stuff I want to do that hasn't been done yet, I'm not even at the starting line for that. The sheer baseline of it, the overall look and proportions and anatomy, I'm not happy with yet.
But I did say pony writing would recommence in September, so expect updates thereabouts when my personal projects are done or cancelled. The Brass Tack concept is getting more ideas and fleshing out, but some of those are needlessly antagonistic, so there'll be some pruning to do. The Ocellus concept might have to be binned, I don't see a way to make it work the way it should.
Another Pillars Adventure, though, that might be an idea. Flush out some random D&D ideas and use them for something constructive.
Or maybe I'll let the dice and cards decide my next story. Worked pretty well the first time, no?
Cracker out.
