A good story isn't measured by how long it is, but by how long it stays with you.

Compati Update and Top-Left Horsefest 2022 · 7:03pm Aug 19th, 2022

Hey!

Just a quick poke-in of the head to keep y'all in the loop. I've been working on Compati pretty consistently lately. Recently got the motivation to actually sit down and work on it back, and it feels good. I'm happy. But one thing about working on a story this honkin' big over such a long span of time is that there are nuances within the story that I tend to forget—thematic consistency, little nods to previous events and phrases for callback's sake, and the like. Plus the whole [you haven't finished this bit here, so make sure you do later] bits that come with first drafts. It's forced me to reread through the story a few times just to keep my head wrapped around it all. As part of all that rereading, I've come to learn just how much I've grown as a writer even between the start of this story and where we are in it now, and looking back at what's published has me all bleh.

So I updated all the currently published chapters.

Storywise, nothing's changed, but I've polished up turns of phrase, added in phrases that needed to be there, improved reading flow, added descriptions that were sorely missing, fixed and expanded upon the fight scene in chapter 10, and all sorts of other writing stuff that should really bolster the reading experience. Also, being as close to the finish line as I am in terms of chapters left to write, I'm also close to the point where I feel comfortable publishing some of the buffer I have stored up. (Compati updating after 4 years of silence what?)

Here's to all this work I've done quietly in my little corner of the universe finally paying off.

As to the second half of that title, I'll be at Everfree this year! Keep an eye out!

Onward and Upward!
