Twisted Metal: Black, Part 2 · 4:19pm Aug 13th, 2022
Early last year, I made a blog post of my opinions on Twisted Metal: Black. Now, having beat its story mode and generally gotten better at the game, I decided to do a part two.
Now, in part 1, I said most of what I have to say about this game, but…
You know the saying “knowing is half the battle”? It’s very true with this game; I know how every pickup weapon and Special Attack works, how to unlock every vehicle, and how to unlock every level, but putting all of that knowledge to use wasn’t easy. However, as of this post, I’ve unlocked every vehicle except Minion, beaten Story Mode twice (with Roadkill and Outlaw), and unlocked every level except the ones unlocked via Endurance Mode.
I’ve also obtained the following trophies on the PlayStation 4 version of the game:
- Exchange weapons for health
- Score a Bank Shot Bonus with the ricochet
- Inflict maximum damage with one attack
- Hit with all ten missiles of the zoomy or reticle
- Complete Story Mode with any vehicle
- Collect all black cubes*
- Unlock Yellow Jacket
- Unlock Axel
- Unlock Warthog
- Unlock Manslaughter
*Black cubes are located in certain levels in Story Mode and unlock levels for other modes.
All of that in less than 24 hours of total play. I don’t feel invincible, but damn do I feel awesome!
But, there are a few issues, specifically related to game balance. The Special Attacks of Roadkill and Spectre are underrated, and the latter’s is too powerful for something that can pass through obstacles. When you’re using either vehicle, they have two of the game’s best Specials; when you’re fighting them, they have two of the most infuriating. Although, in a way, that makes defeating either of them in battle more satisfying.
Additionally, I previously said to watch out for Roadkill and Spectre. I’d like to amend that statement: watch out for everyone.
Personal rating: 9/10 - it has a few balance issues, mentioned above, but nothing too big.
Do I recommend playing this game?
Absolutely!
