Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with another movie review for today! This afternoon, I will be reviewing DreamsWorks' Monsters vs. Aliens from 2009! This was yet another animated film I enjoyed watching as a kid, and even now, I still consider this to be an absolute awesome adventure/comedy movie! This film is about a young woman who has her beautiful life ahead of her and sets out to marry her fiance. However, a large meteor full of space gunk hits her and transforms her into a giant, prompting the military to capture her. Once they place her in a large facility, she meets rather strange, monstrous creatures who have different personalities. As they bond throughout the journey, an evil alien warlord seeks to take over Earth. They must work together to stop him and his army.

I thought that the way they wrote the story was both pretty clever and amazing. Here we have these monsters who are considered to be horrible, disgusting, and vile; yet despite their flaws, they show themselves to be heroes with big hearts while standing up against an alien threat who are the real monsters deep down. The character development was solid and well-written. Although the character designs for the humans looked too off-putting, the monster and alien designs looked perfect.

The voice acting and 3D animation were excellent as well. Seth Rogen was definitely born to voice B.O.B. His sense of humor, mannerisms, and personality made him a very likable character which makes him my favorite character in the movie. Hugh Laurie likewise did a great job voicing Dr. Cockroach; although he may not be my favorite character in this film and wasn't exactly a ground-breaking type of guy, he was still fun to watch. As for The Missing Link, he is honestly a decent character. This is probably the most tolerable role that Will Arnett has played in so far. Again, he's my one of my least favorite actors, but he still pretty much nailed the role flawlessly.

As far as the main antagonist is concerned, he was both funny, entertaining, and a badass. Granted, he doesn't have a solid background or anything like that, but he was still a fun villain to watch. I just love it when villains have very little background while still possessing so much character, charm, life, and energy in them to do evil things just because. Plus, I was amazed to learn that Rainn Wilson was the voice behind Gallaxhar. I bet he had so much fun in the voice role; alas, it is sad for Gallaxhar that he went from being a tyrannical alien conqueror to being Sam Wickwicky's creepy college professor in the same year (2009). How have the mighty fallen....

Overall, this was a flawed yet wonderful addition in a list of comedy/adventure movies! I enjoyed the story, the characters, the animation, the voice acting, and the action. This gets a solid 9/10!

Peace!

FUN FACT: This movie was the one that introduced me to Seth Rogen in the first place.

Kung Fu Panda introduced me to him.

I'll tell ya.... the way of how the Golden Gate Bridge was destroyed in this movie was a tad bit unpredictable.... ^^; :twilightsheepish:

It won't be the last the Golden Gate Bridge is destroyed in a movie about giant monsters.

It's a shame this didn't get a sequel.

And that movie would be....

(I'm telling ya: I'm not used to the Golden Gate Bridge getting completely destroyed, aka when the support towers fall as well as the roadway. The only instances where I'm fine with it being destroyed is only when it is partly destroyed, aka while the roadway collapses but the two support towers remain standing. Example of that being the movie San Andreas of which following after the Tsunami that occured in the movie shortly after the 9.6 earthquake in the City by the Bay. Of course.... what caused the roadway to collapse you might say? Well... it was a cargo ship loaded with containers that did just that.)

Pacific Rim and Godzilla 2014.

Let´s be honest here, the president was the best character in this movie in my opinion. I remember when I watched the movie at theaters the laughs we had :rainbowlaugh:. Very underrated movie indeed.

Plus, I was amazed to learn that Rainn Wilson was the voice behind Gallaxhar.

Ever since I discovered this, I can´t not imagine Gallaxhar as Dwight. This makes me wonder, have you watched The Office?

Kung Fu Panda introduced me to him.

Dreamworks introduced me to a lot of actors.

I've seen glimpses of the series.

I started watching it faithfully with my family from season 5 because my sister introduced it to us.

When I rewatched this movie in preparation for reviewing it, I found "Monsters vs. Aliens" to be as awesome as I remembered it being. Even today, I still consider it to be one of the Dreamworks's very best animated films.
