“Why do you use so many ellipses?”

Not a question I’ve actually been asked, but a question I’m sure has gone through y’all’s minds. Why DO I use so many ellipses? Especially in the most recent chapter. I noticed I was using them A LOT.

Well, mostly, it’s to help pacing. My writing style is very dialogue-focused, and, as such; I have to find a way to break up the conversation and still have it flow nicely.

Now, this is a cheap trick. It’s easy and it’s free. Doesn’t require any actual creativity. It’s fake pacing.

Easy, yeah, but I don’t like it.

I read a lot of stories that have focuses on dialogue, but they don’t use 80 billion “…”s, so why do I??

-I’m working on it. Sorry if this seems like an excuse but my last big writing project was a visual novel. In that format, I could rely on the backgrounds and character sprites. I didn’t have to go into as much detail as I do with a fanfic.

I’m still stuck in that mindset, I believe is the issue, so I ask you guys to stick with me while I figure that out. You might notice a gradual change in the way the story is written as I try to give it more substance.

Hopefully it’s not too jarring.

But most importantly, I hope you guys understand. I gotta get used to all of this again.

Sorry if this seemed out of nowhere. I just felt the need to talk about it.
