Politics: Roe V. Wade Overturned, Trump, Democrats · 11:42pm Jun 29th, 2022

Rapid fire right out of the gate, I'm both pro-choice and pro-life. This means I don't like abortion, but I'm against making it entirely illegal. This has put me at odds with a few of my fellow Christians and conservatives, but I have my reasons for this belief. To put it simply, making something illegal doesn't stop it, doesn't make it right or wrong, it only changes what is done after the fact. Our justice system and resources are already overburdened and making abortion illegal and trying to enforce it will only cause more problems and waste more effort, energy and resources.

The pro-life community is one of love... mostly. There is no innocent faction in the modern political landscape and all parties have committed some sin, so I'm done with the victim mentality. The pro-lifers have committed bombings. This has got to stop. The pro-lifers should recommit themselves to providing safe alternatives to abortion, providing education, contraceptives and if their religious convictions tell them to do anything else, they should keep it to themselves. I am a Christian, I believe in Christ and the love of my fellow man. We've got to be there for people when they need us to give them the Good News. Don't force anything on anyone.

So, in order to fight abortion, we cannot criminalize it no matter what we might think. Combat the attitude of abortion and change hearts and minds. That is a lot harder than changing a law, but being a Christian is about doing what is right, which is rarely easy. Women will always have the choice. Help them make the right one.

This obsession with Trump is tiring. He's one man. All of these politicians, they're too used to their positions. The idea of voting for anyone is beginning to leave a bad taste in my mouth, so I'm going to vote for the HOPE for an ideal rather than the belief one of these clowns will carry it out. The Republicans spent 4 years under Trump, 2 of which they had control over most of the country for, aside from the media, and they spent that time shitting the bed. They passed one tax law and repealed the ACA mandate, the latter of which was the main reason I voted for them on. What's happening in the courts is because of them. They've done a few things, but very little really. Not enough.

That all having been said, voting for a Democrat at this time is tantamount to voting for a shot in the head. I still firmly believe that, and many on the other side of the spectrum agree with me. It's disturbing to hear from extremist socialists and Marxists that they're hoping for a bloody revolution. I do not wish for violence of any kind, yet there's a war on the other side of the world right now.

These are terrifying times. I believe in talking through problems and that requires listening, compromise. Honestly, would compromise on this abortion and gun issue and other things be that terrible? Do it randomly- half the people get abortion restrictions, half get gun restrictions. Neither side would be fully happy, but it would be real progress. It might even actually be beneficial. This is more of an extreme suggestion/example, and a more refined solution could be found on a similar basis. Compromise means neither side gets what they want but they get a little of what they want and need. It's the basis of American government and it's been completely forgotten. Both conservatives and leftists are trying to do things their own way. That's not going to work.

Politics these days is like watching children.

Also Babylon Five made a good point about both sides.

It very much is like watching children. Babylon 5 has many good points.

I wish they were behaving like children, at least you have a chance of arguing your point coherently with them.

Whats going on these days is outright paddying of the infant style. :pinkiesad2:

Both sides just want to do things completely on their own. It's madness.

We've been sitting in a pot of water being brought slowly to a boil, and I feel we're close to the boiling point. Polarized, radicalized, extremist; whatever the specific term, irreconcilable differences are stacking up and there's no safety valve left. Even the external threat of the pandemic was politicized and used to divide people, rather than bring them together to face it as one. It's inevitable, and that is tragic.
