Lightyear-Review (Spoilers) · 7:00pm Jun 17th, 2022
I thought that Lightyear was a good entertaining film. The 26th animated film from Pixar was co-story written, co-written, and directed by Angus MacLane (Finding Dory). The film was also co-story written by Matthew Aldrich (Coco; Cleaner; Spinning Man) and was also co-story written and co-written by Jason Headley (Onward; A Bad Idea Gone Wrong). The film is based on characters from the “Toy Story” franchise. The film features great animation, good writing, great performances, great animation, great music, great editing, great action, great themes. The features the voices of Chris Evans, Keke Palmer, Peter Sohn, James Brolin, Taika Waititi, Dale Soules, Uzo Aduba, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.
Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear (Evans) makes a big mistake while exploring in space. The mistake causes him and his entire planet to be marooned on a planet. Buzz, along with his partner and best friend (Aduba) and the crew attempt to create a hyperdrive fuel that can hopefully allow them to leave the planet. Buzz uses it for a test flight. Not only has the test flight failed, the fuel forces Buzz to be sent forward in time by four years. Refusing to give up, Buzz continues with more test flights which results in numerous failures which also results in everyone else aging and dying, including his best friend. Buzz, with the help of a robotic feline companion (Sohn) have finally found a successful hyperdrive fuel. They use it and it works, however this results in them traveling in time by twenty-two years and the planet has been overrun by robots that are controlled by a powerful being named Zurg (Brolin) who wants to use the fuel for his own purposes. Buzz is met up by the granddaughter of his best friend (Palmer) and her team. Together, they must stop Zurg and save the crew.
The film deals with themes such as friendship, family, time, choices, mistakes, consequences, time, loss, death, missing cherished moments, legacies, looking back, moving forward, acceptance, not giving up, survival, teamwork, the need to succeed, responsibilities, selflessness, selfishness, solving problems, a new life, home. I recommend this film.
