I have reservations about No Way Home · 7:23pm Jun 12th, 2022

I would say it's because of the video below but I had reservations before watching that video, which was enough for me on two separate occasions to be reluctant about picking it up when I went shopping and instead picked up different movies (The Matrix: Resurrections and Ghostbusters: Afterlife).

Then again, The Critical Drinker gave a glowing review of it (which I have embedded below) and I know he doesn't have a good opinion of recent MCU products so...I dunno. :derpytongue2:

Oh, and my reservations about buying No Way Home boil down to a desire to NOT support a media conglomerate like Disney and a fear that the film is using nostalgia bait.

You're not one of those MCU haters, right? :trixieshiftright:

Believe me, I'm not.

But after The Rise of Skywalker and the revelation that Disney stabbed George in the back in favour of their own nostalgia bait-littered, Mary Sue-led corporate drek that didn't even have an over-arching storyline, I started to look out for red flags in today's media. And that means looking at the MCU with a critical eye. Or rather borrowing the critical eyes of others and then using my own critical eye to sus out things in G5.

Honestly, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is literally one of the best of the recent MCU additions. I think you’ll also be happy to know that there’s no sense of nostalgia bait either. It has elements from each of the non-Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, but they were all incorporated in a way that was genuinely out of creative thought and inspiration.

That's good to hear.

Thanks.

To tell you the truth, something I’ve frequently been annoyed by is that people always seem to single Disney out for their shortcomings and mistakes like they’re supposed to be something special, but they honestly aren’t. The things they’ve done since the death of Walt Disney are honestly no different than what others like Paramount, Columbia, and Warner Bros. did and still do, and frankly…I believe that all the big dogs of the film industry are basically nothing but morally bankrupt and money-greedy sleaze bags.

Indeed they are.

And while they made up for it by releasing Zack Snyder's Justice League, I still haven't forgiven Warner Bros for butchering Justice League over bonuses the executives wanted. Oh, and pestering the Wachowskis for years over whether or not they're gonna make another Matrix movie (which one of them eventually did in order to cope with the loss of a few loved ones).
