Wanting to be Published

I wrote a book a long while back, today I was told I could get it Published but the publishing fee was 7,700. Does anyone have any idea how the hell anyone is supposed to pay for that? I can barely get people to pay me to write stories here, now I have to pay others to get my own original stories published.

Self-Publish? Hand bind a few copies to sell (say a dozen) then find a place that would be willing to sell them (they will take a bit of the sell price for each book) if it sells well the publishers will lower the price.

The $7,700 is the cost of the books to be made, publishing fees, overhead and an initial investment.
