Cadance of Cloudsdale (so far) now in Spanish!

Thanks to the generous SPANIARD KIWI, the text of Cadance of Cloudsdale so far is now in Spanish! Mr. Kiwi has done a tremendous amount of work translating many of my stories into Spanish, but this goes above and beyond. If you're curious, you may visit the project so far here at this

    Happy Cadance Day 2024!

Things feel a bit subdued today, due to the coincidence of Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday through a quirk of the liturgical calendar. It is somewhat difficult to juxtapose the splash of corporate-encouraged love with the festival that literally exists to remind us of our mortality. The pink of Valentine's washes against the purple of Lent. So I'm in a pensive mood, more so than usual on this

    Ciderfest is a wrap!

Just got home from PVCF and it was an amazing con experience! The minific-based ARG that circulated around the con the whole weekend was high-concept, and I was worried about engagement, but everyone seemed to really get into searching out the hard-to-find stories concealed around the convention hall (in places as obscure as "the desktop wallpaper on one of the monitors in the video game room,

Could someone out there please, please, please write a Celestia & Twilight fanfic based on "Evermore" by Alison Krauss so I don't have to?

Please?

EDIT: Replaced slash with ampersand for clarity. Not specifically pining after a shipfic here.

Allready written 4 Twilestia fics, sorry xD

Not until after I finish my half-written Celestia/Dragon ship. Twilight wasn't the only Element of Harmony with a faithful assistant, after all.

(Though possibly that story might scratch a related itch -- like going after your forearm when your wrist is in a cast.)

Well, the slash is misleading. It doesn't have to be Twilestia, per se. Just a both-of-them fic. Unfortunately, any fic properly based on "Evermore" is going to be one of two things:

(1) Easy to write, really overdone in the fandom, and sad.
(2) Hopeful, but extremely difficult to write.

Neither of which is particularly appealing at this moment.

599433 Mhm, so true. Also promised my watchers to start on my huge project this weekend, don't wanna let them down :3

599438
I suspected as much. Worth a shot, I guess.

That's so crazy it Just... Might... Work.

I can't find lyrics on google...that has never happened to me before. :pinkiesad2:

Neigh. Not when someone as talented as you basically guaranteed that you were going to write it anyways. Have fun! :pinkiehappy:

599489 Stars and fishes. Having actually listened to the song now that my workday is done ... I see what you mean.

Hm.

... Hmmm. :unsuresweetie:

Argh! I've got work I actually *own* that needs my attention! And once that's done, I *already* have a Pony queue! I've got this Cadence cycle to work on, plus at *least* two Luna-related fics to hammer at to see if I can make them postable. I just plain have no room in my writing life for the kind of treatment this story would require. But thank you for the kind words.

600770
I know, right?

Sorry, I don't ship.

600876
Yeah, as I noted above, that slash was misleading. I should just replace it with an ampersand, as it more accurately reflects what I was trying to say. I'm actually looking for a Celestia & Twilight story, not a Celestia / Twilight story.

Not that I anticipate that this will change your answer, just saying. :pinkiehappy:

It said Celestia and Twilight, do not want!

599495
I couldn't either. Seems to be a really rare song! For anyone who needs them, the words or some fair approximation written as I heard them:

The forests of April awaken from sleep,
And flowers unfold through the snow,
And the wind rushes high and the river runs deep,
And it sings what you already know,
You already know.

Evermore I will love you, evermore I will stay.
Ever right here to hold you, never so far away.
And though I know sometimes you go to find your way alone,
Evermore I will love you. You're ever my own.

Though nothing's as certain as seasons and time,
Though nothing will be as before,
Still every way and always it's certain that I'm,
With you forever ever more.

Evermore I will love you, evermore I will stay.
Ever right here to hold you, never so far away.
And though I know sometimes you go to find your way alone,
Evermore I will love you. You're ever my own.

And though I know sometimes you go to find your way alone,
Evermore I will love you. You're ever my own.
Ever my own, (x2)
Forever,
And evermore.

It really is an inspiring song. And clearly doesn't have to be a ship, like you said. There's so much love already between Twilight and Celestia, and they certainly have the whole passage of time / eternity theme going on.

.....
I'll try. Song is too beautiful not to.
First time writing anything though. I probably won't do it justice.

Why ship with this at all? Something along the lines of Celestia watching over Twilight and being there for her as she grows (up) and finds her own path seems much more fitting.

602247
I'm going to regret putting that slash in there forever! :pinkiehappy:

Basically, I agree, hence the new ampersand in the original post. I don't have a strong specific aversion to it, but on the other hand, there is no particular need to be shippy with a story like this. I'm just amazed that people are seriously considering this; I say things like "Please write this so I don't have to!" in a sort of shout of tongue-in-cheek frustration at a troublesome inspiration particle, but if people are actually considering it, that is almost unutterably great. Please try! The more fic, the better!

Well just great, I think you might have just given me a story idea. I already have more than enough of those, not to mention all the stuff I've started and need to finish. arg

602617
I've been looking for an excuse to start writing for a while now.
This works as well as anything: I like the mood that song sets and it's about time I got rid of all those pesky excuses to start "someday"
Onwards for more fic!

Well, I went ahead and did it, damn you. I managed to make it until last Tuesday, but unfortunately a combination of getting that song [1] stuck in my head and a three and a half hour car journey resulted in dangerous levels of inspiration. Two writing sessions later, and the first draft is done.

[1] I do like the song, though.

Eeexcellent. You looking for betareaders?

636496

Yes, it is only fitting you be the first victim.

Its about 2700 words and already on gdocs (which I've been told is pretty much the standard way to share work at this stage) but I could send it in other formats if that would be better. In any case, I want to give it a read through for any more obvious awkward or nonsensical sentences first, which I'll probably do tomorrow.

Sky! (And guys!) I found a better recording!

The one Skywriter originally linked had kinda a skippy thing going on durring the first verse, kinda annoying (but so worth it). So I'm glad I found this. On the other hand, that one had some good bio-type information.

Incidentally, apparently the song was written by one Sandra Boynton. I dunno anything about the singer/etc, though.

[1] If you're thinking of the children's book author, yes, that Sandra Boynton. And based on her web page you should look her up.

Thanks for finding a better version! And yes, my very first exposure to this track was listening to the album "Dog Train," an entire album of songs written by that selfsame children's book author and performed by various folky / bluesy / indie musicians. It was a surprisingly good listen.

2065779
I think this one may have been uploaded after your original post. :applejackunsure:

See, that's the problem with internet posts! That was kinda directed at any- and every-one who happens to be reading the thread. But because of the way fimfiction is, you're going to see it and probably basically no-one else.

I watched her TEDx talk. (Did you know she did a TED talk?) It wasn't an exceptionally awesome TED talk, but it was surprisingly good. I mean, it had a goofy insirational message and airborn pigs and the square of the hippopotanuse. What more do you want? :rainbowhuh:

2066544
You know, I have never seen any TED talk in its entirety. I barely knew of their existence until a couple months ago. Clearly, I live under a rock.

And yes, the odds that anyone is going back and reading these blog entries without being specifically tagged in a reply is virtually nil. But I do appreciate you still thinking of me!
