I remember when this sort of tragedy was a one-of-a-kind event, 23 years ago. There've been 27 school shootings so far, this year.

At this point, gun control should be a non-issue, because it's clearly necessary for the safety of the children of our nation.

Neither one. Anyone who would walk into a school with the intention of murdering children is beyond reason. Properly implemented gun control would prevent people like that from acquiring firearms. Ounce of prevention, and all that.

There is this thing called Nuance I'm not sure if you've heard of it.

Because we live in a white supremacist capitalist authoritarian police state, I don't trust our government to decide who can or can't have a gun. But I do think background checks, restrictions for domestic abusers, short waiting period, super basic safety training requirements etc. are more than reasonable. Owning a gun should be widely possible, but it shouldn't be a loosey goosy affair.

I know what you mean. I was playing with my magic eightball the other day, and the message in read was, "I hate kikes." Apalled, I shook it again, and it displayed, "Kill all the gooks." "Eightball," I said, shocked, "when did you become so based?" Another messaged came up. "Check your privilage." That was when I realized my mistake... There will always be people who will use hot button issues such muh racisms to justify violence. That's why it's good that there people like me who will only use a firearm judiciously. It's a morally abhorrent thing to shoot somebody just because you think they're an asshole. But if you're ambuscaded upon by a group of whackos because somebody pointed at you and yelled "racist," then yeah, time to plant some freedom seeds.

'The world over, mass shootings are frequently met with a common response: Officials impose new restrictions on gun ownership. Mass shootings become rarer. Homicides and suicides tend to decrease, too.

After a British gunman killed 16 people in 1987, the country banned semiautomatic weapons like those he had used. It did the same with most handguns after a 1996 school shooting. It now has one of the lowest gun-related death rates in the developed world.

In Australia, a 1996 massacre prompted mandatory gun buybacks that saw, according to some estimates, as many as one million firearms melted into slag. The rate of mass shootings plummeted from once every 18 months to, so far, only one in the 26 years since.

Canada also tightened gun laws after a 1989 mass shooting. So did Germany in 2002, New Zealand in 2019 and Norway last year.

Only the United States, whose rate and severity of mass shootings is without parallel outside of conflict zones, has so consistently refused to answer those events with tightened gun laws.

Though such restrictions have always brought some controversy, most were broadly embraced by voters in other countries.

Even in Australia, where conservative-leaning politics and rural traditions had long favored gun ownership, citizens broadly accepted the buyback. Some even surrendered weapons they were legally permitted to keep, in a show of support for their country’s tightening gun laws.

Every mass shooting is, in some sense, a fringe event, driven by one-off factors like the ideology or personal circumstances of the shooter. The risk is impossible to fully erase.

Still, the record is clear, confirmed by reams of studies that have analyzed the effects of policies like Britain’s and Australia’s: When countries tighten gun control laws, it leads to fewer guns in private citizens’ hands, which leads to less gun violence — and to fewer mass shootings.'

We shall omit the DOJ's report of the 1.6 million defensive uses firearms had a role in last year in the united states. We also won't talk about the uptick in rapes, kidnappings, stabbings, acid attacks and home burglaries in Europe. All easily preventable crimes. As are mass shootings.

Also: I actually didn't know this until I checked my european statistics, but did you know that the stabbings in the UK have gotten so out of control, their government, as of last year, have begun talks of banning non-rounded kitchen knives? You can't make this shit up 🤣
