    I will return to G5

    Hey, guys. Mr. J here.

Just so you're aware, I am planning to return to MLP G5: both watching Tell Your Tale and Make Your Mark. Now, I don't remember if I ever told you all about this, but I did inform some of y'all that I've given up hope for G5 because the episodes I watched around that time (two years ago) were so forgettable and boring.

B- (a good episode with numerous flaws but still rewatchable)

C- (it’s not worth rewatching although it does have good elements)
D+ (a bad episode with a few good things in it)

D- (a terrible episode with badly written characters and butchered moral)
F (horrible and unwatchable)

Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with more The Owl House content! This afternoon, I will be reviewing the eighteenth episode of season 2 entitled: “Labyrinth Runners”. This was yet another excellent episode that gives “calm before the storm” vibes filled with great character development and chemistry. I especially was overjoyed to see Hunter again in this episode, and for Gus to get another episode focusing on him—well, for him to share the screen time with someone else. Ha, the poor kid won’t get a solo episode for himself, won’t he?

Anyway, in this episode, we have the Emperor’s Coven seeking recruits from Hexside as they all must be part of a coven before the Day of Unity arrives. However, Gus gets unexpected help from Hunter as he helps him and the others fight them off before the illusion coven gets any of them.

I actually liked how Hunter interacted with Gus in this episode and the bond they had towards the end. It’s amazing to me that Hunter is basically a parallel character with those whom he connected: Luz, Amity, Willow, and now Gus. I’m quite sure he will connect with King in the future as they both suffered tremendous amount of pain and trauma. But it seems to me that Hunter has overcome those painful memories as he sought to help out Gus from his mental breakdown. To me, that came full circle for Hunter’s redemption arch and I love it. Although it was a bit rushed, I liked the way they went with it.

Amity and Willow’s interaction was so well-done and well-paced. We see that Willow still has some passive resentment for Amity as she’s annoyed that she keeps treating her like she can’t protect herself. At the end though, Amity had to learn to trust Willow and her strong abilities. The only way to rebuild a friendship is to pluck out any root of doubt that could bar the way to trust. I’m glad the writers gave them that development.

The voice acting was great, and the returning characters were amazing to see again especially the Blight siblings. This is the first episode that doesn’t feature Luz at all surprisingly. Then again, it’s about time we cut away from the main characters and give the spotlight to secondary characters so that they too can have their time. Take notes, Bumblebee...and Hasbro.

Overall, I enjoyed this episode and loved the dialogue, action, and the immersive storytelling. I give this an A-! Oh, and did you notice that Hunter blushed when he saw Willow (although that was an illusion of her)? If he actually has a crush on her...well, okay then. I’m not entirely on board with this ship, but I will admit it’s very cute. Only time will tell if they do end up together by the end of the series, but I’m still hoping he lives a life of his own with Flapjack by his side.

Peace.

Yeah I will admit myself: I was very surprised at how this became the first episode in which Luz does not appear at all aside from being mentioned. :)
