Chapter 24 is Nearly Here · 12:23am Apr 27th, 2022
Happy Wednesday everyone!
Chapter 24 was a prolonged fight with rewrite after rewrite. I had to retool the same 3K-ish word scene three times, toning it down each time since Fleur was getting a little too wild for my tastes. Spent a lot of time looking away from the words over the past two weeks to detach myself from them adequately to take a chainsaw to them as needed. There were a lot of words left on the floor afterwards.

I hope the chapter will come out on time since I’ve made several passes over it through TTS, but this is one I very much want the editor to look over to check the overall tone of the piece before I release it. I like it, but it took me a long time to settle on a first draft to work from and I still might be too close to look at it objectively. I’ll be spending most of the day going over it again and again looking for errors while waiting to see what AP and a potential prereader thinks of it before I’m confident in releasing it. The tone does shift pretty hard from the first to the second half of it, but I’m hoping I tied it together nicely enough for a single package.
Fleur is definitely to blame for that shift. I love her, but she do be a wrench, tho. Once the chapter is properly released, I plan on sharing how drastically I changed the second half of the chapter here to show just how much I had to wrangle her since it’s all in-character for her, but it goes way too far.
In other news, I am enjoying my new school. The workload is much lighter than the elementary school despite having far more students. Gotta love having multiple teachers to work with! It means I actually have more time than last year to work on Electro Swing when I don’t have materials to prepare. Golden Week is also coming up, which means I have a long weekend with Friday off and then Tuesday through Thursday off next week. Why Monday is still a workday is disappointing since the tidy part of me wants all of the days off in one clean sweep, but I’m not complaining since Monday and Friday are days that I have the most time to myself at work. More time to write!
I think we got a chapter or two before the next major beat, so wish me luck on getting the groundwork laid for it. Hope you are all still enjoying Electro Swing as it develops.

Thursday Edit: I've got a lot of cutting room floor content. I think I'll save it for the end of the fic just in case cuts could spoil things in the future.
