Nightmare Night in April 2022 - Time to write some horror stories! · 3:12am Apr 10th, 2022
Meant to post this a few days ago, but there's still plenty of time on this.
It's April, which means it's time for the annual Horror Write-Off I run every year, Nightmare Night in April!
The event is simple: in order to encourage more horror writing, I hold a write-off event in which anyone can submit a Horror Story, to be compiled by April 30th, the opposite day of the year from Halloween!
I have no rules for entries beyond "horror", so any entry will qualify regardless of technical quality, as long as it counts as a horror story. There's no "contest", per say, as I've learned the hard way that there will be too many good stories to judge, but I do try to promote everything that comes in, so expect plenty of views if you submit a story. This is also a really good opportunity to try your hand at horror if you're a new writer, or a writer who hasn't written much horror.
I will also be removing the "short story" and "new story" requirements so I have an excuse to finally finish Displaced into Nothing.
Remember, horror stories don't require violence, or even to be that scary or startling, only that they're about some creepy subject. This includes "Friendly Ghost" stories, Friendship is Optimal stories which get into the brain-uploading stuff, stories about summoning the dead or building a robot and "something goes wrong", or just exploring a creepy locale. This is a creative and fun event, so feel free to get creative and have fun!
If you need help, remember my writing advice blogs, and that I did a presentation on this at an online convention a few years ago which might give you ideas. I'm pretty sickly these days, but I'm also willing to offer advice if you catch me on Discord or PM me here, as are quite a few other authors on here.
