Thoughts on the Oscars slap · 3:17am Apr 1st, 2022
To be fair, both Will Smith and Chris Rock are in the wrong. While Chris maintained professionalism, took it in stride, and kept the ceremony going, it's inappropriate that he made a G.I. Jane joke to Jada Pinkett Smith who is diagnosed with alopecia. Making fun of someone's medical condition is not okay.
Obviously, what Will did wasn't right because a slap in the face is physical assault. If that wasn't enough, him yelling at Chris was indeed a shocker. If he's that seriously offended, perhaps it would've been best for him to leave the premises, take a walk outside, and come back later.
For it to occur on national TV is going to be remembered by millions of viewers around the world for a very long time. Will's apology to Chris in social media felt disingenuous and for him to get away with this says a lot about the shadiness and deception of Hollywood.
While I'll admit both are indeed in the wrong, it's not that easy just to take the turn the other cheek and talk it out route.
It was a jab at family and that's something an outsider doesn't do.
Violence is never the answer, but it is a answer.
The difference? Is it's used when all else fails. Yes, you can say that it offends you and ask that they refrain from it. But if they keep it up, a slap or a punch will get the point across.
I know that'll make you no better than them, but peace wasn't taken so what else could you have done. If you ignore it, they'll stop at nothing to drag you down, if you fight back, you're just like them. That's the sad world in which we live in.
I would never up and physically assault someone for nothing. But disrespect my family or my friends, I may either throw a punch or I may yell or curse you out.
That is my opinion though, I don't hold it as fact. But most the time, no one is gonna stop when you say stop and will not apologize if you say "hey I'm offended"
when i first saw the clip i thought it was stagged. (that's what i really thought at first). but it was the complete opposite. (of course i don't watch award shows but the slap had cought attention).
