Okay, I exaggerate when I say "common" but that was literally my editor's response when I asked him to look over Psychic Simian Insanity:
Though, with benefit of hindsight, perhaps I should have made PSI into a webcomic on my DeviantArt.

You want to animate something awesome, right?
I have a set of ideas for you to consider.
Firstly, you know what tentacle ponies are, right?

Anyways, here are some very raw ideas that might work in visual media:
Sweetie Belle brings home her Friend Tenty.
Sweetie Belle announces her and tentacle wrap around the filly, engulfing her as Tenty says, “We’re bestest friends now.”
Rarity saves Sweetie Belle but ends up with Tenty on her Hoof, crawling toward her face.
She uses the door to get her off and leaves her outside.
Sweetie Belle convinces Rarity to let her back in.
When she opens the door, she’s sticking to all sides of the frame with her ear to the door (she’s been eavesdropping).
Before dinner, Tenty is asked to clean herself. She pours soap on her tentacles and doesn’t wash it away.
At the diner, Rarity sits Tenty on a chair.
Tenty doesn’t understand the concept of a chair, so she just wraps it in tentacles and mounts it on her back while she eats.
As they say thank you at the table, they hold each other's hooves, but Tenty holds all the Hooves with her tentacles as well.
As others eat at the table, there are tentacles all over the table, touching everything.
To open a clam, Tenty uses Rarity’s horn (clam-opener) without even asking.
When there’s a visitor, Tenty jumps at their face like a face-hugger.
When the mailman drops mail through the door. Tentacles emerge out and he runs away.
When she sees a pegasus, she tries to imitate wings.
At sleep-over, Tenty is laid on the top bunk, but she instead hangs from it with her face against Sweetie Belle’s. Always watching (Tentacle ponies sleep with their eyes open).
Tentacle mare can’t restrain herself. Tentacles have a mind of their own.
Gets a tentacle stuck on someone’s eye. They have to pierce the sucking circle and she has to bandage a tentacle. It happens again right away…
Finds a job handling postcards. When they change to echo paper, she no longer excels at it because she can’t suck on the rough surface.
Finds a job at moving glass.
Forces somepony to smile with her tentacles.
