a few of my visual inspirations for Eternity · 7:30pm Mar 18th, 2022
i've privately received a few questions over the years about what Eternity looks like, so i'm making public one of my responses to one of them for anyone who was curious. it's mostly just compiled references, but it'll give a good idea of the aesthetic i was going for.
1: What is the tech level for Eternity. Is it the same as Destiny, or just a little below it?
Below/same-ish. It's kind of anachronistic, since Destiny is fantasy/sci-fi, whereas Eternity is WWI-era steampunk. So, technology-wise, think airships instead of starships, continents instead of planets, wood/metal construction instead of plastics/polymers, and a limited amount of electricity/magic.
If you need a few references for the general look and feel of the world's technology, Equestria-Prevails is generally the aesthetic I'm going for.
Lots of classical architecture with a touch of Renaissance (and occasional modern vectors whenever magic is involved)…
…armor and weapons in Medieval/Victorian fashion, plus some American Western sensibilities…
…technology that's pretty advanced even though it looks somewhat dated, and lots of airships.
Other things to keep in mind: magic in Eternity is mostly gone from the world. Unicorns can't cast spells, pegasi can't fly or control the weather, and earth ponies don't have their innate strength. Guardians are the exception to this rule, as are any creatures infested by Chaotic magic (basically all the main bad guys).

2: If it's the same, do you have a set reference for the exact gear that Freya, Sweetie, and Silver use?
Not particularly, actually. You can get a little creative with this if you'd like. I actually don't imagine them wearing too many clothes, especially not helmets. I'm quite fond of the Titan Iron Banner designs, though.
Equestria-Prevails continues to be a good reference for this sort of thing.
— Titans (Dovetail, Zaid) wear mostly plate-and-chain
— Hunters (Mash, Freya) wear loose leathers and some plate
— Warlocks (Shadow, Stranger) wear mostly cloth and leathers, with lots of collared cloaks.
As a Hunter main, I don't think I could ever see us just wearing leathers. (Memory of Cayde cloak gang represent.) Though....I am a Gunslinger, so...it would make more sense?
Man I really need to read your story. It's been in my back burner for a while.
While the content of this post is of little interest to me, I do appreciate how it shows that you've still got this story on your mind.
