Hello and Welcome to another installment of After-Sex Smoke. The series where I give you a behind-the-scenes look into my newest story, for those who may be interested. Today's a special blog post because this is the first time I'm ever doing one for a story that has multiple chapters. I don't think it'll be too different, but it's worth mentioning at the least. Anyway, without further ado, here's the After-Sex Smoke for my newest story, Diamond Has It Rough.
So let's start where most readers do: at the title. This one took me a bit to come up with. I've never been particularly good at naming things. For most of my career, I've just been naming things after puns, well-known phrases, and some miscellaneous information. It's worked out so far, but I was having a tough time coming up with this one. I asked a couple of friends and they were similarly coming up blank. I spent a good chunk of time just calling it "Roommate Diamond Tiara", but eventually I came up with something mimicking "Diamond in the rough". So more or less what I always do.
Next, I'd like to talk about the idea to make this a chaptered story rather than a huge one-shot with breaks in between. I realize that I've been writing bigger and bigger ideas recently. My "recent" Adagio story even threatened to break 20k. I realize that these ideas are kinda hard to digest if you're just browsing the site, looking for something to read to go to bed. I also realized that if it were me doing that, I would likely pass on the 20k story in favor of one that's 2k long, even though the 20k one could be the better story. These two things led me to believe that breaking the story up into chapters would likely increase my story's readability and popularity. I'm not sure how many of my ideas I'll be breaking up into chaptered stories instead of long one-shots, but it's something to keep an eye out for if you're a fan of mine.
Onto the meat and potatoes, the story itself. I enjoyed writing it. It's another one of those cheesy romance-style fics like the Aria and Adagio stories I've written in the past, but with a character I rarely ever think about. I'm could think of plenty of MLP characters whose personalities I love, but I just haven't written. I guess this is just like the tip of the iceberg for me. I'll think about more underrepresented or underutilized characters and how I can use them in my future ideas.
Finally, to close, I'd like to thank you all for reading this. I know that it's kinda bland to just thank people for spending their time on you, but it's the simplest and most effective way I can think of to show that I do care about your likes, comments, and even your views. It really does put a smile on my face when I get a like and also makes me think of what I could be doing better when I get a dislike. So again, thank you for your time.
