I drank most of a can before I just couldn't stomach the flavor anymore at about 11:00 AM. By 3:30 PM my anxiety started spiking. By 4:30 PM I was experiencing overstimulation to the point where I was clapping my hands around my eyes to limit the visual sensory stimulation and had to sit down at a computer with just text on the screen and music literally drowning out everything else. I thought I was OK by 5:30, and my roommate suggested we get dinner and pick up different energy drinks so I'd have something that didn't cause a reaction. By 6:30 I was experiencing paranoia and starting to shake. By the time we got home I was a sobbing mess and my roommate had to pretty much pour me into bed.

It's probably a combination of ingredients and brain chemistry. My roommate, for example, can't have any energy drinks at all 'cause they send her into an identical paranoid state to what I experienced. She's on the autism spectrum and was incorrectly diagnosed with ADHD, which can have similar symptoms but completely opposite chemical causes in the brain. Somehow, Zao triggered a nearly identical chemical bath in me as she went through when she tried energy drinks. I remember her going through it and swearing "never again!" for her sake, but I've had the weird imported Japanese energy drinks before, the ones that have just strange formulations and taste like worse medicine and NEVER been through what I went through last night.
