Bronies forever. Even if the fandom has gone down to a simmer.

I track the beginning of the end to Episode 100 (Slice of Life), where Hasbro sang the swan song to the brony community, focusing the content of the show exclusively on the intended audience. Good for them, though, as they managed to keep the main show going for almost a decade, plus several movies and sideshows and a comic book series.

    Adventures in Airbnb hosting...

In Spanish, or at least here in Mexico, we have a saying that said "one bullet wound every trip". Well, for the last three groups, I lost a microwave oven with the first group, the fridge lost its gas with the second one, and a little after Hurricane Grace (I think), the third group comes in, and it turns out that one of the air conditioner units is tripping its circuit breaker. I'll be changing

    Hurricane Grace in Cancun: underwhelming

My home is a ferrocrete fortress, like the average Mexican home.
I only had to board up one window, which is the only window in my home that faces wind and I haven't changed to acrylic.
The wind did rattle my windows, and the wind howled all night through my side alley, but that was perfectly expected.

    Hurricane Delta in Cancun: underwhelming

    Hi.
It wasn't wild. Far milder than it had any right to be, in fact.
Fifteen years ago, Wilma came and I bunkered my home as hard as I could.
Yesterday, Delta came, and didn't have time to bunker that hard my home, and couldn't bunker at all the other house (the house were I spent Wilma).

Today's Earthquake, here in Mexico City

12 days after "the most powerful earthquake to hit Mexico in more than a century", we got a 7.1 eartquake. Softer, but the bloody earthquake had a much, much closer epicentre (like 100km versus some 1,000km). My city is currently in ruins, and I'm afraid of what I will find when I get off work. At least I know my apartment and my various family members and friends are okay as well,

Bad for us, though, as we were left adrift. The brony community has lost its vibrancy. The people I follow have either settled down or are long gone, or like Estee and B_25, I have begun ignoring for my own mental health. The stories I follow are either finished, long abandoned, or both. We won't shut down, but we are now a legacy community, remembering the good old days and waving our canes at newer generations. We will now move from anime conventions to Star Trek conventions, getting into geeky debates on whether John De Lancie played a better ROB in Star Trek or in MLP.

At least I enjoyed myself. And my only current gripe is that my new fandom, Worm, is very far from mainstream, so I will have even less opportunity of meeting fellow fans in real life.

I will continue hanging around here in Fimfiction, but I'm conscious that I'm slowly drifting away.

At least now I'm old enough to do a Gendo Ikari cosplay without looking ridiculous. How would it look if I did a Spear of Longinus to go along with that?

You and Estee are people who I just want to go and hug, and help anyway I can. Alas, my savings simply vanished during the pandemic and haven't recuperated. I had to carefully save for the ~$400 usd that it will cost me to refurbish my tuk tuk (yeah, that's my personal vehicle), as it is simply falling apart. But of course, when you have money things have to happen:

  • My instant hotel just ate another appliance (now a fridge), and the newish (38 weeks old) AC is going wonky.
  • And my eighteen years old dog had a moderate stroke: light enough that putting her down wasn't really in the cards, but severe enough that she lost her housetraining, is now eating more medicine than food, and can't eat on her own: we need to feed her.

So now I don't even know if I can afford to repair my tuk tuk. And know the funniest thing of it all? I already spent about half of my repair budget on parts which I ordered from China, and now due to my dog's medicines, I'm most likely to shove the box of parts under my bed for a few months until I save up again. And my tuk tuk keeps falling apart until then.

See that my profile says that "I'm unlikely to give you a free vacation"? You personally would get as close to free as I can possibly afford: 70% off for two persons for a week in my instant hotel. Open invitation.

Just messing with you.

Sorry to hear about all that terrible stuff.

I hope things even out for you in the future.
