Hey, everyone! Your old friend and reviewer Mr. J is back with another movie review for tonight! This evening, I will be reviewing the 2021 sequel to the first Venom movie entitled: Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Originally, I was planning to set my review for this movie around October due to the fact it has elements that could have qualified this as a horror film (thank God it didn’t become one), Carnage being one of those elements. However, I decided to review this now as we are now in the month of love—February. From the way this movie was written and developed, it is none other than a romance comedy which warrants yours truly to give my take on this sequel.

This movie is about Eddie Brock trying to reignite his career by interviewing a serial killer named Cletus Kasady who is behind bars. However, after Venom carelessly attacks him, Cletus bites Eddie out of retaliation and gets some of his blood on him. Later on, it forms into Carnage and helps him escape his execution sentence, break his psychotic girlfriend out of the asylum, and wreck havoc together. Venom and Eddie must destroy them before the villains destroy everyone in their path.

In my opinion, this movie is ten times better than the first installment because there are moments between Venom and Eddie Brock that last throughout the entire movie. As much as I like the first movie, it lacked so much chemistry between the venomous duo as the filmmakers introduced Venom with only about 55 minutes left in the runtime. Plus, their character development was rushed and didn’t have enough time to fully mature. But in this movie, they have more dialogue, more chemistry, more comedic moments that made them so iconic together. This is what I wanted more of: more Venom and Eddie together, and they gave me my wish. Tom Hardy was amazing in this movie.

As I already said, this movie is a romance comedy because Venom and Eddie bicker like an old married couple. To me, they are both hilarious and cute together whenever they argue. A lot of people give this movie crap because of that very tone and calling it “out of place”. I thought it was very funny especially every time Venom uttered his jokes that had perfect comedic timing. Of course, that’s just my opinion.

Cletus Kasady was absolutely terrifying in this movie thanks to the unshakably brilliant performance of Woody Harrelson. He was both chilling, intimidating, psychopathic, and quite a brutal force to be reckoned with even when paired up with the infamous Carnage, an offspring of Venom. Every time Cletus appeared on screen, he gave that killer clown impression with his creepy facial expressions and body language. With that said, it makes me happy knowing Carnage and Joker teamed up in another universe before (although it didn’t end well). Although Cletus’s motivations (especially in regards to Eddie) could have been better written, he was still a solid villain.

Shriek was also a great villain. Her love relationship with Cletus gave me Harley Quinn vibes although it ended sadly for both of them thanks to Carnage allowing his weakness to separate them. Naomie Harris did a splendid performance in this film as well.

The choreography was amazing, the CGI was awesome, the fight scenes were terrific, and the plot was quite interesting and simple enough to follow along. I honestly appreciate what Andy Serkis did for this movie, and I thank him for allowing more scenes with Venom and Eddie together. Not to mention how surprising it was for these guys to be briefly teleported to the MCU where Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was. Although it would have been cool to see Venom fight him, I’m leaning more towards him fighting Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man instead. He needs an alien foe still.

Overall, this movie exceeded my expectations and blew me away through it all. To be frank, I watched this movie three times—that alone says how much I enjoyed this movie. I don’t care that this isn’t rated R or that it lasts for only an hour and a half or that Carnage was “watered down”. I find it as awesome as it is albeit with a few flaws. Therefore, I give it a 10/10!

Also... I need to say this: when Anne invited Eddie to a restaurant to talk with him, I thought those two would bond together or reignite their relationship. But nope, she tells him that she’s getting married to Dan and shows him her ring. What the fuck was the point of that? Why bring him all the way down there to tell him just that? Shouldn’t you just leave him alone if you aren’t dating him anymore? That was so shitty. This is why people need to work with their communication skills. Lord, I really hated that scene.

Anyway, peace out! 💜

0:59-2:00 is my favorite bit.

To me, this song doesn't just fit Venom and Spider-Man, but ALL heroes and anti-heroes of the Marvel Comics.

Kickass song to breakdance to, am I right?
