Everyone has a story. The question to ask is, what do you want others to read in yours?

    Something About Writing

Hey, folks. Well, to the folks who are around to read this, heh. Yet another 'long time no see' post to follow after the one I made last year. This post may be a slightly more somber note.

    The Current Standing

I've noticed that a lot of my stories currently in the works involve guards, or guard-like characters. I'm starting to think I may have a type. Or possibly a problem. Nevertheless! They are what they are. Rest assured, though, I do have more than just guard-pony stories.

    The Brony Con

Just as fair warning, I'm typing this out on a phone since I don't have access to a computer. Brony con just ended. This is the first one I had ever been able to attend, but I'm glad I did.

The con was fun, and while I wasn't there under my author name (Butterscotch Cream) I still had the opportunity to meet some awesome people.

    Critique of Critics

A friend of mine was recently telling me about a comment he received on one of his stories. A lot of you here are authors, and you're probably familiar with the feeling. The comment was pretty rude, "blunt." The commenter went out of their way to state that the story pretty much wasn't worth their time reading.

I've noticed that a lot of my stories currently in the works involve guards, or guard-like characters. I'm starting to think I may have a type. Or possibly a problem. Nevertheless! They are what they are. Rest assured, though, I do have more than just guard-pony stories.

I'm writing this blog mostly as a landmark point for me to check back on, and for anyone watching who might be interested. I have about as many WIP stories in my unpublished ranks as published, but I'm only working on a few of them at a time, and I have new stories I'll probably get to before finishing all of the old ones, but these are my current focuses:

How I Wonder - Involves Guards, lots of Guards. Also donuts. Originally inspired by a friend's story prompt, and it became its own thing. Around 8-9 chapters, most are complete(ish). But it'll have a lot of polishing and still some writing to do. I'm not sure when I'll start publishing chapters or how I'll go about it, but... hopefully soon. My brain is stuck on a few scenes. May contain bats.

Coltcuddling for Dummies - Chapters 2 & 3 - Chapter 2's first draft is nearly complete. I started it and I was always sad I never finished it. Hopefully my sense of humor hasn't deteriorated too much in the dusty years since I started it. I have no idea what to do for a cover image on this one, but after this long it should probably have one. Does not involve guards! Or bats. But it is one of my few attempts at canon ponies. I'm generally more comfortable with OCs, but way back when I was asked to do another canon pony story after Candied Apples, and this is that attempt.

TBD-1- A story prompt by a friend. Does not involve guards. At least... not currently. Shopkeeper? Twins? Deliveries? I'm sure guards will find their way into the story somehow.

Finding Starlight - This story... will be a long while coming. It will probably be the longest story I've ever written, but... I've begun chipping away at it. Will definitely have guards.

TBD-2 - GUARDS. Yes... yes I just have to write about a particular guard. I love him and he needs to be on paper somewhere. I don't even know what the story will be yet, but I know the character I want to write about. Definitely contains bats.

As anyone who knows me will attest, I have a genre. There will be much gay, much ponies. I really do swear I don't make an effort to write guard-laden stories. Some of them just happen. But hopefully these will all be stories you enjoy. I do have other stories of a much more saucy nature in varying levels of completeness, but I'm considering opening a different account to publish those because... Aheh. Anxiety.

But, thanks to any of you who are reading this little blog post of mine. May it find you well, be you reader or author!

I mean, if you want the horses to be gay boys, there ain't a whole lot to choose from :B

Now if only I could stop clicking "Publish" instead of "Edit". It always gives me a heart attack. I should... probably stop editing and writing on the site and write in some external program instead. But... habit. And I like the dark theme.

I should also apologize to you in advance. Some of my stories... well, I'll create a label for your benefit:

"May contain bats."

Yes yes, I know. I'm sorry! Somewhat! I actually am curious about that though. Do you have a blog post or anything going into what it is you don't like?

I accidentally clicked publish on on the Coltcuddling for Dummies chapter I'm working on (hence the comment), and in the 10ish minutes since that happened it already has two fresh downvotes! It's nice to know people are paying attention :ajsmug: Hopefully I should have an actual new chapter for them to react to soon.

mostly just people using them as woobies

changelings went through the same thing for a while, but batponies never stopped

and like, technically they don't exist, and usually when people make headcanon for them, it sucks ass

and also they're dumb and stinky and not cute at all. >:B

I promise that my bat pones shall be sharp and well-groomed, definitely not stinky, and... uh... well, I'm not aiming for 'cute' anyway in this case. Fluffy maybe?

Headcanon, I honestly don't delve into with these stories as there isn't much need, I just deal with the individuals themselves. The stories basically just 'assume' they exist as a subset of nocturnal ponies based on the brief glimpses of the lunar guard. Trying to explain their existence would have about as much import to these particular storylines as explaining earth ponies, unicorns, and pegasi — they just 'are', in the story.

I feel uncultured, but... I actually can't find what a 'woobie' is. Maybe I've just been out of the fandom loop for too long. Urban dictionary has failed me! Though Google seems to suggest it's a poncho.

That.... might actually have given me a scene idea...
