Why do people balk at republishing a story? How can I improve an existing story without alienating others? · 6:20am Dec 2nd, 2021

Hello, my fellow bronies,

After downloading Grammarly, I decided to republish some of my stories that I felt were inadequate in both grammar and spelling and in the plot.

Why do people immediately downvote or get upset over a republished story? Is it better to republish the chapters on the already existing story? I am seriously wondering why, because I want to improve my past stories, but I don't want to alienate my followers. If I feel my work is inadequate and I want to do it over, what is the proper course of action?

Sincerely,

Redandready45.

They couldn't have been completely bad.

Well, the comments and like-dislike ratio said otherwise.

If people don't want me erasing and publishing, should I instead just post edited versions of the chapters?

Honestly, I think you should just do what you think works.

So you're saying I should take pride in my work?

I'm not sure what others think, but I have no problems with republishing stories. Perhaps they just see it as unnecessary, since publishing a story means new content, and if an author doesn't like the original work simply editing it works fine and seem as a more reasonable approach instead of publishing it again. Or it could be they think you're trying to make yourself known all over the front page by publishing existing stories, edited, yes, but it already existed, didn't it? But that's just my two cents on the problem, don't let the comments affect you that much, you're a dang good author.

There's nothing wrong going back and re-writing a story, writers do that all the time. I even do that now and then.

If someone republishes a story from like 5 years ago, and it only got 40 likes, then it doesn't sound like trying to squeeze blood from a stone.

Eh I'm not familiar with what the others think, I'm perfectly fine with a rewrite, but there must be some reason the others didn't like it as much.

Some people, some of which have some form of OCD, find it annoying to think a story is done only to find it edited or redone completely.
