New 'Little Fragments' One-Shot, update on Little Keys. · 12:33am Oct 29th, 2021

Well, here we are! My first major story post since coming back from vacation, and it's a one-shot in my anthology series. This time focusing on our favorite pair of shy, introverted, socially anxious fluttering creatures. Introducing: Fluttering Hearts!

Now, while that's all well and good, I figured I'd also take this opportunity to speak plain about the progress on Little Keys. As most of you know, I've been working on the next plot arc behind closed doors with my editor as an experiment to see how things will turn out if we write the entirety of something out first and THEN publish it, giving us more time to edit and tweak any lingering issues.

As matters stand, we HAVE made progress... but it is slow going. I will not lie to all of you, I am not having anywhere near as much fun writing Little Keys as I thought I was going to, and, speaking bluntly and purely from the heart, I genuinely think it's probably the weakest entry in the Little Flashes series so far. Which is a shame, since I was really hyped to get into it when I started, but the longer it goes on, the more I realize that I am just REALLY unsatisfied with how I've structured the narrative in this one. It's possible it could just be burnout, but I'm not so sure.

It is far too late to go back and rework it, since after we wrap up the arc I'm currently writing we get to launch into the final arc of Keys. I am not going to cancel it the way I canceled Scarlet: Broken Pedestal, as that was still early in the narrative when I did that. I am way too committed to seeing the Little Flashes series to its conclusion anyway, so that means I need to power through the bump in the road that is Little Keys. I imagine plenty of you have noticed the dip in quality in narrative cohesion, and I assure you: I've noticed it, too, and I apologize for it, but shall make no excuses. I'll just see Keys to the best conclusion I can manage and then give myself some room to breathe and work on other projects for a while, then come back for what comes next with a clear, open mind. I might even pick up a few more narrative-focused editors to whoop my sorry backside into gear and help me tidy up my mess.

Alright, that'll do for now. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you all when next I post. Ta for now!
