Story Notes: Unity 2 (part 2)

If you got here without reading the previous blog post or Unity 2 you're gonna be confused. Just scroll through for the pony pics, or maybe skim it in the hopes of finding a useful horse fact.

I promised you Silver Apples and you're gonna get Silver Apples. No, that's not a pony, but it sounds like it could be.

    Missing: Hobo Shoestring

I don't have the reach that a lot of YouTubers do, but I've got some railfans in my readership and probably some people who live in Tennessee . . .

Hobo Shoestring was an inspiration for Destination Unknown, and he's gone missing. Southern RailFan is leading a search effort at a lake he liked near his house; here's a video if you want details or think you might want to help:

Signal Boost: We Built This City · 3:10am Oct 26th, 2021

Hey, we’ve got another entry in the not-a-contest! Written by none other than AlwaysDressesInStyle, and pre-read by some guy.

It’s called We Built This City, and it features a pony who plans ahead.

Someday, hopefully less than a year from now, I’ll tell you about my most recent semi-epic road tripTM that I just got back from. Suffice to say that I pre-read this one in front of the author, than handed a sheaf of paper to him (I almost always pre-read on printed copies ‘cause I’m old) with corrections marked on it.

And we did have a good discussion about urban planning. That’s a complicated subject, of course, and opinions vary on what’s a feature and what’s a liability. For example, as I recently mentioned in another blog post, Chicago accidentally became the railroad interchange capital of the US even though it’s actually a terrible location. Had they planned ahead, right after the train was invented, Chicago wouldn’t have been a major east/west interchange.

Some places do plan ahead, though. I used to live in a town by a river that sometimes flooded in the spring. They knew that, so they built the city on a bluff and put a park on the floodplain. Some springs that park was under seventeen feet of water, but when the water eventually drained out, there was some minor cleanup and maybe the pavilion would need a few shingles replaced, but nothing of significance was damaged.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a story featuring a pony urban planner, working on Earth, look no further!

Question, was it built on rock and roll?

Every time I see mission to the pony planet on the front box I think it is your story for a second then sigh.

Thanks for the recommendation, though I'd already seen it and gotten interested enough. :)
(I've not read it yet, though; bit behind, unfortunately. But it's definitely on a short list!)

You think you’re confused and disappointed? Every time I see it I think I finally finished and uploaded the next chapter. Seriously.

I think you’ll enjoy

Heh, I know that feel. ADIS was nagging me this weekend about being behind on reading 16.

Yep -- stories with very similar titles are a pain.

Thanks. :)
...When I manage to get around to it. :D
(Still, it is still on a short list...)

Ah, sorry. :D
But yeah, like, I have so many horsewords I want to read already, and people keep adding new ones. :D (And then, of course, there are non- or less-horseword-related things taking up time, including a fair bit of house maintenance just recently.)
There are much worse problems to have, of course, but it does lead to me having to prioritise.
Good luck with your own reading!
