    Audiobook Announcement

I'm excited to announce that I'm working on an audiobook for Hooves of Fate. I started with Chapter 63: Rivers. This way, long-time readers of HoF can reorient themselves to the momentum of the story before the upcoming release of Chapter 64 (text) this Saturday.

    The Voice of the People

They can cancel Friendship is Magic. They can cancel Make Your Mark. But they can never silence the voice of the people.

    Flurry Heart's Reign of Terror

I stayed up till 2am last night talking with a friend - orchestrating a plot - theorizing what precisely it would take for (young adult) Flurry Heart to successfully depose both of her parents, and Twilight Sparkle.

Zephyr Heights Politics · 1:44am Oct 17th, 2021

Queen Haven was placed under arrest, and a warrant was issued for Princesses Zipp and Pipp as well. Obviously, this is not an off-with-their-heads absolute monarchy, and that is a good thing. However, one cannot help but wonder what manner of checks and balances Zephyr Heights has that allows the tables to be turned almost instantaneously.

No judge could have acted that quickly - no legislative body. Even a coup enacted by factions in the Royal Guard would be unable to pull it off.

That leaves only one explanation - the royal family was downvoted out of office.

Discuss.

Is it really so surprising that Zephyr Heights is literally a cancel culture? Between the generations-long dismissal of the other tribes and ludicrous degree of Internet usage, what else could it be? :raritywink:

(Also, the ZBS logo using the Pegasus Crystal to replicate a more familiar network's iconography is still brilliant.)

I didn't notice the logo!

It's crazy how much love and attention the animators put into every single frame of this film.

The predominance of internet culture in Zephyr Heights does remind me of that Orville episode 'Majority Rule'. I always like getting to see alternative governments even when they aren't ones I'd live well under. I am however struck by the thought that although Pipp makes it seem that the royal family is a direct equivalent to modern internet celebrities, Zipp and Haven themselves aren't seen using phones of their own (Haven just butting in on Pipp's livestream.. or at least that's the only non-Pipp direct royal interaction with internet devices I can remember). It sort of makes me think that the monarchy might be more conventional than it appears and that Pipp's personal activities either have literally changed the general royal culture in her lifetime, or we as viewers in a celebrity-focused culture are just projecting her practices onto the whole group (of royals, that is, the citizenry are clearly into internet culture).
As I typed above about alternate governments, I would find it less interesting if their monarchy was more conventional, while conversely we do see guards using phones, Zipp and Haven not using phones can just be explained as part of their personalities, and, even with plausible time inflation assigned to the movie's time frame, as the opening post states, judicial processes aren't all that fast.
