Recently, I put an old PSU (Power Supply Unit) into my PC. Why, you would ask. Well, it's semi-modular, it's 750w, and it served well. Aside from that, the PSU I used to have in my PC was needed elsewhere and I couldn't buy a new PSU at the time. Now, however... my PC is giving me trouble, crashing sometimes, with video output disappearing randomly. Since I did nothing but replace the PSU and the exhaust fan, and the fan couldn't give me such problems - it's a Noctua, costs a lot but is of very high quality - and thus I need to get a new PSU.
I can't afford this old PSU frying my PC - despite the fact that the PSU is of good quality and would shut down if something went wrong - I need to change it, considering that I don't have nearly enough money to replace anything outside of RAM or storage, and only if one of those two failed. Replacing a CPU or a GPU does not fit into any budget.
So, I decided not to skimp on a PSU and get one with Gold-rated efficiency and, from the reviews, decent insides for the price. Which sets me back a bit on buying a new damn window - or moving out of this apartment for good - but, well, life doesn't exactly want to give me a break, now does it?
With that out of the way, I can promise you one thing - I've two chapters pretty much ready to go, and more on the way. I'm taking care of my mental health as best as I can despite all the problems I face. Not to say that those problems are all that great - I can use an Intel Celeron laptop I have lying around to write stuff for you if my PC does break. But still, I think I'm dealing well with everything, and I will actually have a scheduled chapter posting at the very least someday in November. I'll notify you all via a blog post here and on my Discord server.
15 years ago I invested in a 1,500 watt server grade PSU, finally had to replace it, new one is also a 1,500 watt 80+ platinum server grade I expect it to also last 15 years or more not modular but I can easily tie up cables I'm not using.

That's a nice decision. I can't really afford that kind of stuff, but I'll manage.
https://www.newegg.com/
has parts and new computers for cheap and when near Christmas a lot goes on sale.
the Honey app also works to extend savings.

If you don't get modular then price is much cheaper also have you checked Amazon warehouse?

I live in Russia, newegg doesn't seem to be delivering there. Even if it did, delivery fees would eat a ton, plus there's waiting time of at least two weeks. My PSU seems to be on its last legs and I do not want it to fry my PC. I already have crashes to black screen, that's a good symptom of something being wrong with the PSU. And I definitely can't afford replacing any other part of my PC.

I've ordered a PSU yesterday. I've wanted a gold-rated, modular PSU for a while, and I snagged a good one for a decent price. Not from Amazon, but from a Russian computer parts shop chain that I have locally. Since my PSU is already acting up, I'd rather not risk it and replace it as soon as I can. And, until the PSU arrives - the model unfortunately wasn't stored locally, so it won't come until the 17th - I'll keep my PC turned off with the PSU completely detached and lying in a box. Thankfully, I do have a laptop, and I'll use it to write some things until the PSU comes and I put it in my PC.
I did consider getting a non-modular PSU, but the one I ordered isn't that much more expensive than a local selection of non-modular PSUs. On top of that, good models are notoriously hard to come by. One of the apparently good options sometimes has condensers that blow up after around a year of service.
I'd much rather get a titanium-rated PSU of excellent quality, but I'm not made of money. I still have to deal with inheritance issues and apartment ownership and some other stuff, and that requires a fuckton of money, apparently. So yeah, I am where I am.
