An update on life and something is coming

Hello, everypony. It's been a long while, hasn't it? I'm so sorry that I haven't updated or posted in a long time. I hate, hate, hate that I haven't but real life has just been a real swamp and a bit of a mess for me, plus, while I have finished Part 3 of Wherever the Light Shines in terms of writing, I've even finished Part 4 and have written a real good chunk of Part 5, I had planned

An update on life and Light Shines

Hey all! It's been a while, hasn't it? I'm so sorry for the silence and what's been going on with my story. Real life has been kind of kicking me in the flank and I've not been able to write as much as I want to and I'm still kinda experiencing burnout with life. Believe me, I'm not happy about this, and I'm really wanting this out more than anypony else. I'm still very committed to the story and

My Little Pony: A New Generation review (MAJOR SPOILERS) · 2:07am Oct 1st, 2021

What’s up everypony? 😊 I’ve seen the new MLP movie and I’ve gotta say it was a fantastic movie that was a definite worthy follow-up to Generation 4.

I’m going to break the review into several different categories and then give my overall thoughts at the very end. And just so you know, I know some of you might have different opinions and probably don't treat this an official follow-up to G4 but an alternate version after G4, you know? I consider it that way to an extent depending on how things go down the line but I just wanna have fun with our little ponies.

Anywho, here're my thoughts! :pinkiehappy:

Characters

All of the main and side characters all stood out in their various personalities, designs, and character moments. There’s not one character I truly dislike, not even Sprout but we’ll get to him in a moment.

Sunny is the main character of the movie, and has grown up knowing earth ponies, unicorns, and pegasi are to live in harmony. She’s a great, cheerful, energetic and optimistic pony that wants to change the minds of her kind, but it’s not over-the-top preachy and jarring. She’s very fun to watch and she’d be very fun to hang out with. At times you feel bad for her and want her to succeed, and that’s a win in my book.

Izzy is no doubt the fandom’s favorite and is my favorite too! She’s a very charming, cheerful, funny and wonderful character to watch. All of her jokes are spot on and there wasn’t a single scene where I thought she was annoying or off-putting

Hitch is an overconfident, charming, yet hesitant sheriff, and usually those kinds of characters a annoying in animation and other media. However, Hitch was none of those, he was very funny at times, was fun to watch, and his character felt very believable for that kind of character. They nailed him.

Zipp, man she saved the adventure after Sunny and Izzy got arrested. I loved how she played a proactive role to help the two find answers, what they needed to do, and get the jewel. Like Sunny, she had to make a choice between her home and helping get the magic back. She was a fun character, dashing, but not outright annoying in any point of the movie. I just wish she got to sing.

I really liked Pipp, and there were some scenes where I enjoyed watching her, but unlike the other four, she just didn’t have enough moments for her to stand out which is a shame because there could’ve been more done with her.

As for the secondary characters, Queen Haven was an interesting one to watch and had some humorous moments. Alphabittle though intimidating was great to watch and hilarious at times. Sprout, though he was a pain in the flank, I did like some moments with him and his song was catchy, too. But I was disappointed he didn’t get some form of punishment for his actions. Phyllis was good but I don’t have much to say about her other than she was using the fear to sell products but I did like her trying to put a stop to her son's madness. I did enjoy her, though. And Sunny’s father was a wise, caring pony that was the whole reason why the movie began in the first place having taught Sunny everything she knew.

If I can say positive things about all of these characters, that’s a pretty big win right there. The minor characters were fun, too.

Story

The story is relatively simple and is predictable in a lot of places but the journey is what matters, not the end result, and man did the journey entertain and enlighten me in a lot of ways. And there were a lot of chuckle and laughter worthy moments as well as a lot of visual gags I thought nailed it.

The jewel heist in Zephyr Heights was fun and memorable, and Bridlewood was gorgeous, weird and fun, especially with “Bing bong” from all the unicorns when Hitch says all the forbidden words! LOL!

I did feel bad for Sunny when they united the crystals but I knew there was another crystal, but Sunny and the others didn’t know that at the time. The showdown with Sprout and his war machine was surprisingly kind of intense but also fun. I don’t hate Sprout, I find him funny in places before all of that, I just hate what he did.

The ending in particular, while good, it felt a little rushed to me and like I said, Sprout not getting some kind of punishment, he didn’t say he was sorry or seem to repent for his actions either and didn’t answer the question if Sunny will keep those wings and horn she’d gotten. But I’m saying that she won’t and that it’s a temporary thing due to merchandise showing her an earth pony. And also, when that guy that was floating around the entire movie and screamed at everypony being together was a LOL moment. XD

Animation

Absolutely gorgeous. Every scene, every character, and every setting just pops off the screen beautifully and I love the designs of the places the ponies visit. The G4 easter eggs and references were enjoyable, especially the opening with Twilight and her friends. There wasn’t a single moment where the animation was distracting, odd, or bad at all.

Songs

The songs were very catchy for the most part, and my favorite is Fit Right In, with Gonna Be My Day tying with it.

Looking Out For You was a good song with beautiful shots and backgrounds, Danger, Danger was a pretty good villain song. I don’t really have much to say about “It’s All Right” because only part of it was in the movie but I guess it was an all right song.

Forgive the pun. :rainbowlaugh:

My least favorite song is Glowin’ Up but it’s not a bad song, it’s just not really my kind of song. It was catchy and done well for what it is, but I was glad it was mostly in the background during the movie. Also I think Pipp gets higher on the credits list because of that song, when I believe Zipp deserves to be higher than her sister.

Final thoughts

Great characters, settings, simple story, and catchy songs. Generation 5 has started off very solid and I’d definitely watch this gem again and again!

Overall, I’d say this movie is a solid 8.5/10. As much as I enjoyed the 2017 MLP movie, I enjoyed this one more and I hope Generation 5 continues to deliver!
