My Little Pony: A New Generation and what it means to my fan fiction. · 10:06pm Sep 27th, 2021
The New Generation movie, as set in some far distant future, is, unfortunately, far too removed from Friendship is Magic that I'll not likely attempt to write anything for it for the foreseeable future.
It's not that I'm not interested, it's just that I've no idea how it fits in. I can't really use any of my existing characters either. Sure, Nova would be a Tenko or even a full-fledged Kami Sama by this point... which would have some interesting challenges. Mary sue type challenges. As if she wasn't already seriously OP.
I'd undoubtedly have to come up with a new OC and don't really intend to even think about it until I've more of an idea of what that new generation world is like. I need more information even if I have to invent it myself. Information like, why are there only three separate pony communities? Especially with the Earth ponies. One would think there would be multiple Earth pony communities spread out across the continent, Unicorn communities in every forest, and pegasi on every mountain peak. But we aren't given any of that. About all we have is speculation at this point.
One possibility is to treat it as an alternate dimension. The first potential neration I can think of is one in which Cozy Glow breaks free of her confinement and succeeds in eliminating all magic. Possibly dooming herself in the process, but it's an idea. Together with Tirek and Chrysalis, they create an atmosphere of distrust and zenophobia that causes pony communities to splinter. The total lack of diversity within communities also suggests that ethnic cleansing must have occurred. And yet in the case of the three communities presented in the movie, they are well aware of each other, and where they live to include well-trod roads. Could this mean there is trade going back and forth?
Possibly.
One thing we can gather from the movie is that Izzy wasn't aware that the bridge to her community was gone. Did she take an alternate route or was it destroyed after she left? We may never know.
