Well, when I woke up this morning, a new hard drive was on my doorstep.
Stuck it in my laptop during lunch, and started working with it after work. This hard drive works fine, and I got it set up as my new home folder relatively easily.
I hooked the old hard drive up to usb, and tried to see what I could get from it.
Half the time, it doesn't even detect it. If it is picking it up, it gives menacing messages about a damaged superblock, and doesn't mount. If I try to tell it to use an alternate superblock, it tells me about a read/write error, and hangs. This is one very dead drive. I don't think I'm getting anything more off of it.
What I had managed to copy off before it died completely looks to be the Desktop folder, Documents, Downloads, Games, and Projects. Now, it gave a few dozen read/write errors when I was doing that, and I don't know how far it got with Projects.
Still, not too bad, I just wonder what I didn't get. I definitely didn't get any config files...

Sorry to hear.
I once plugged two hard drives into an audio port by mistake. Fried them both, lost everything.
