So Baser Instinct got featured yesterday! Second time, yes! Now I am complete. Lol.
And it's very weird. Has anyone else had ideas for other stories pop into one's head while writing a certain story? I get all sorts of ideas for other stories in my head while writing Baser Instinct, but I'm holding off on seriously pursuing them. I want to get done with the majority of my first story before skipping off to start another one.
Anyway these two ideas have been floating in my head.
1) A Spike X Rarity X Prince Blueblood story
Seriously, I'm surprised I haven't run across this yet. Usually it's female x Spike x female, but I'm surprised that no one has gone the other route. Some dark romance and tragedy involved...
2) Rarity gets changed into a filly. Major filly cuteness plus fluffy kid-Sparity plus major chance of Equestria-wide disaster.
If anyone reads this, tell me what you think.
Not sure how you'd work Blueblood in. Particularly post-Gala.
Fillies are always adorable. Not sure how you'd be able to work romance in that, though.

The Blueblood thing is what could've happened if he had hidden his true personality in order to impress an Element of Harmony. So yeah, a bit AU.
The filly thing--not real romance. Just the childish crush thing.

NUMBER 2!!!! There needs to be more stories involving members of the Mane 6 becoming fillies.
Some of the best ideas I get come from my brain getting distracted with potential stories while I should be writing the one I'm committed to. It's annoying, but pretty often produces good material. I try to make a little Notepad file, just plain text, for each little idea. Give it a date and a title, then inside the file dump your thoughts. If there's a perfect phrase a character mentions, like "Seargant Draco! Claws!" or "I kissed her on the cheek, then ran away while she was in shock. I didn't have the guts to do anything else.", I write them down with just enough description to remember the context. This helps clear the brain and lets me refocus on what I should be thinking about.
I come back later and try to spend a little time exploring those little files. Usually it's a dead-end but I can take a scrap or two onto another project. Sometimes the scrap is an interesting character, like a vampire-hunting version of a certain cellist, or just a cool thought about the nature of love. On the other hand, if the glob of idea-matter can be molded into something worthwhile, something I can spend time expanding and exploring like Spike's rationale of his love for Rarity, then I've got a new story full of potential.
Props to your discipline, though. One sure way to stress out over writing is to try and pen ten different stories at the same time. Don't throw away inspiration, but usually it can be written down and shelved for later.
On the topic of story ideas, I could see Spike Vs Blueblood working if you wrote it kinda like The Princess Bride. Blueblood woos Rarity because he wants her power, so Spike has to go on a quest of self-discovery and powerleveling to win her back. I think Blueblood isn't seen much on the site because he's a great dunce-prince stooge. The Vinyl Scratch Tapes did a solid job of painting him as a "redeemable" character along with Trixie, but aside from that he's mostly a jerk-inna-box for authors to drop on scene.
The filly Rarity story is really interesting! It would be cool to see how she and Sweetie Belle get along after the change. Does she keep her cutie mark, or does she have to rediscover her talent all over again? Plus, Spike now being "older" than her is a really nifty twist. Judging by how well you've done in Baser Instinct, you have the skills and drive to make either of these story ideas work.

Thanks for the detailed reply! Yes, I'm thinking the filly Rarity story is the more interesting at the moment. I'd really like to explore how her relationship with Sweetie Belle and the rest of the Mane 6 would be changed. Plus, yeah, I don't think anyone has written a situation where Spike is 'older' than Rarity. That concept would be fun to explore!
To be honest, I will have to start that note taking idea. I never thought of that. Thanks!
