Matrix Resurrections Trailer: So, the metaphor is over? · 3:20pm Sep 9th, 2021
First of all, the trailer in question:
Okay, let's start with the first two things that hit me. First, Neo in a psychologist/psychiatrist and making it explicit that the blue pill is anti-depressants. This because the original's metaphor for the pills was that the blue one was the anti-depressant to keep functioning within the system, while the red pill was estrogen, because the whole damn thing was a trans allegory.
Now, I don't think they'll make the red one estrogen right away. But with its sister now off-mask, what meaning will it take?
Also, later in the trailer, we see Neo actually purchasing Alice in Wonderland, and the proverbial White Rabbit embodied in an actual character this time. Again, two metaphors from the original movie made explicit. It only keeps going, as a later scene has Neo literally crossing a mirror instead of merely touching it.
What I'm getting at is that the trailer seems to indicate the metaphors, thus the ethos of Matrix will be reframed. The then implicit message may be now explicit. Not only because we live in a different society from back then, but also because both Wachowski sisters are publicly themselves.
So, now they don't have to hide who they are, neither does their story need to hide behind the metaphor.
And I couldn't be more exited about it.
Post Data: BTW, the camera work looks mind blowing. The Wachowski's had a very unique and creative approach to how a scene works, both in terms of colors, light and movement. This is only the trailer, but it looks great already.
This is the first I've heard of a fourth Matrix movie, and it's probably gonna be trash like the second and third ones.
Looks like John wick retired, went to therapy and entered the matrix.

I remember a friend having the theory that the John Wick movies get less realistic and more complex in order to better distract Neo from catching up to it being a farse.
