I Wish Ida Known Better · 10:07pm Sep 2nd, 2021
Sorry for the DaD tag, everyone, but I've got a boost in this blog. Head down to the red font below if you want to just jump right to it.
So yeah, Hurricane Ida really came and hit my neck of the woods. I came to spend last night with my mother before getting my second Moderna shot this morning (did the same thing with my other ones— for someone who's immunocompromised, God forbid something you don't expect happens after the 15-minute window they want you to wait before you leave the vaccination site, it's better to have someone around for another few hours). Christ am I glad I did.
Her house has a really good pump system, but it got too overwhelmed to work properly, so there was some pretty nasty flooding in the basement. My mother's set up a lot of good systems for when stuff like this happens (she has a generator, so even though I'm pretty sure the neighborhood lost power, we were fine here), but you never know when the stuff ain't gonna work. Fortunately it seems that anything that was really valuable we brought to higher ground and didn't get utterly destroyed, though the carpet is definitely gonna need to get ripped out and replaced.
Now of course I'm sitting here not really able to lift anything because of arm soreness and fatigue from the shot, and my mother is out trying to save what she can out of the garage, which got flooded to the point where it was one of the places adding to the basement flood. The water went FIFTEEN INCHES up the garage door before it spilled underneath and came in through the inner door. I've done what "this can go, that needs to stay" organizing that I can, and some minor lifting, but much of what's still left needs my older brother's input, and he's got his own water issues to deal with at his house with a wife and infant son. So... FUN.
That said, this isn't nearly as bad as it could have been, and I'm definitely not the only one that had flooding issues. Sprocket Doggingsworth could really use some help with theirs. So head on over there if you have some bits that you can spare— we're fortunate enough that we don't need 'em.
Until next time, folks. Hopefully it isn't because of another natural disaster.

Ah, I'm sorry you've been having to deal with that; I hope your own home didn't get too badly hit, too. Good luck to you and your family!
And thank you for boosting the signal!
Yikes, stay safe out there!
Sorry to hear that. Stay aa dry as you can.
Glad to hear you and your family are safe. Sorry you are all having to deal with the flooding but it sounds like your mom had some good plans in place. Hope your place faired well. Remember we’re thinking of you and that if you need anything, we’re here. Blessed be, Dash!
Stay safe brother.
