    Happy St. Patrick's Day🍀☘️

Currently doing a bar crawl in Downtown (ok so we started in Corktown and are making our way through any good AVAILABLE bar today) with some friends and a couple of co-workers of mine, who we unintentionally ran into. Turns out great minds think alike! Ironically I'm the "Uber Call Girl" tonight so...unfortunately can't get TOO wasted (plus I actually have work tomorrow...couldn't call off).

Happy 40th anniversary Mtv · 5:06am Aug 21st, 2021

Original Launch Date: August 1st, 1981
(I actually didn't know that Mtv turned 40 this month. That's news to me!)
Here's apparently the first 2 hours of Mtv EVER!!??!!

I'm just as surprised as you are I bet. Wow...crazy! I knew Mtv became a thing in the 80s, but I didn't know how early in the decade. Awesome right?! I'm just a bit envious of those who were around when MTV first broadcast on tvs everywhere. Lucky peoples! Anyways, here's to more years of MTV (even if within the last 20 years it's gone downhill and rarely ever plays music blocks anymore)!!

MTV back in the day when they actually played music instead of pointless crap that most of us don't care about. The 80s were MTV's glory days, the music was great and the videos were great. It was in the 90s when MTV started to go downhill, right along with the quality of what new music was.

While you're definitely not wrong, I believe it really hit a critical point sometime in the 2000s.

I'm not sure how old you are but the music being released started to decline in quality when I was in high school.

Well I'm in my mid-20s so...even as a child/pre-teen I understood what quality of music was and by the time 2001 hit, I was admittedly disappointed in a lot of it.

I'm 42 so my idea of what constitutes as good music is likely much different than yours. I listen primarily to rock from the early 70s to the early 90s. Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dio, AC/DC, Ozzy after he went solo, Rush, Kansas, Styx, Boston, Sammy Hagar is some of the stuff that I listen to.

Incidentally enough, I also listen to a lot of those acts. Then again, I also listened to a myriad of other genres growing up and have a deep appreciation for genres such as R&B, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Classical, Metal, Rock and Roll, Pop (but not a lot...I can handle a little), Rap (but only pre-millenium [before 2000]), Bluegrass, Showtunes and Swing. I diversify with different time eras in music as well [for some reason, this decade I'm all about Swing, Jazz, and the 1920s musical influence). That is to say there's a small chance that some music from the last 10-21 years have found their way into my listening quota. Basically I'm a all around the spectrum music lover.

Sounds like we are quite a bit different. Rap/Hip-Hop is one thing that I am simply not a fan of, but then again outside of classic rock and metal, there isn't a ton I listen to. I can handle 80s pop just fine though and I do listen to disco sometimes too. How I got into that I don't even remember.

It appears so. Yet as I explained, I'm a variety kind of music listener. Seriously, I seem to remember one instance when I was maybe 10 and I was just listening to some music from South Africa on my desktop computer. I remember mama coming in the dining room then and asked me what I was doing and I simply replied with "Playing Sims 2 and listening to African Folk music". She looked at me with the queerist look and just said well go on then. At least it was better than having "The Gummy Bear Song (I Am A Gummy Bear)" on repeat on an old radio (courtesy of my, at the time, baby niece).
