This is why I love Middle Earth: Shadow of War · 6:11pm Aug 18th, 2021
Well, along with the Dominate mechanic Talion gets in Act II (which inspired the story I tagged this blog with).
When I started out, I managed to make two nemeses. Ashgarn the Tark-Slayer, who was just a lowly mook that didn't even have a name until he killed me, and Thrak Lock-Jaw. Can't remember if Lock-Jaw killed me at one point but I definitely remember him cheating death not long after I killed him. Multiple times, I might add. To the point that I felt nostalgic after seeing him as one of the captains Zog the Eternal had resurrected in the final Carnan's Bane quest.
For a more recent example of the Nemesis system doing its thing, I was hunting down this orc called Ashgarn the Regal (no relation to the aforementioned Tark-Slayer) and, when I found him, he was about to execute this other orc called Bolg the Shadow before being interrupted by this troll called Ur-Heku the Demolisher, who wanted Ashgarn dead because he thought Ashgarn was an embarrassment to orcs. I then proceeded to shame all three of them (with Bolg becoming a maniac as a result) before chasing after Ashgarn again because, since the event was after I had beaten the story mode and I couldn't be arsed to do the remaining sidequests, I had decided to hunt down every captain in Minas Morgul and drive them insane for shits and giggles. While I was chasing after Ashgarn, I encountered another orc by the name of Golm the Beheader, who wanted to kill me after interrupting Bolg's execution (or at least that's what I inferred when he told me interrupting an execution is punishable by execution).
In summary, the Nemesis is truly a wonderful thing and I probably wouldn't have played Shadow of War as much as I did if it never existed.
