Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J with another movie review for today! This afternoon, I will be reviewing a live-action DCEU movie which is the 2017 version of Wonder Woman. Yeah, it has been a long time since I’ve reviewed DC movies, my second most favorite franchise. Since I have been watching plenty of DC animated films lately, I am pretty much in the mood for reviewing a DC movie because why the hell not? Therefore, I will grant to you decent readers my opinion on this version of one of my favorite DC characters, Wonder Woman.

I kinda had low expectations before watching this movie even though it was one of those films I’ve been wanting to watch for a long time. However, I kept putting it off to some other time because there were plenty other movies I really wanted to watch first. Now that I have had the chance to watch it for myself not too long ago, I must admit..... it was pretty great!

Not gonna lie, there were many things I did like in the movie. First off, I enjoyed the performance of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana. She properly conveyed a demi-goddess who not only worked hard to be a courageous, strong, persistent, and powerful warrior but also became a heroine and protector of humanity. Additionally, I loved the chemistry between her and Steve Trevor (played by Chris Pine). Their relationship and interaction was well-written and solid. As Diana tried hard to adapt to the human world, Steve had to show her the ropes as well as use her help to win the war against their enemies.

While I liked the character interaction and development, there were several scenes therein that were rather awkward and slow-paced. Even some of the lines of dialogue were awkwardly delivered with little emotion. Despite those drawbacks, I still enjoyed what this movie showed us.

I especially enjoyed this film’s main hidden antagonist: Ares, the god of war. Driven by hatred and envy against Zeus’ creation, he stirred war and strife amongst them and spoon-fed all sorts of manipulative ideas and suggestions to various men of intellect and renown to commence war and rumors of wars from generation to generation. He hid in the shadows just witnessing the fruit of his labors while taking upon himself a human disguise as Sir Patrick.

I thought his backstory was really interesting, and his character and demeanor were well-executed. David Thewlis portrayed that type of villainous and manipulative character very well. While he wasn't exactly an awesome villain, he was still fairly entertaining to watch on screen.

The cinematography and choreography were amazing to see with stunning visuals, the action scenes were awesome, and the story was intriguing, solid, and enjoyable all the way through. The screenwriters likewise made the characters so real especially during emotional scenes such as Steve’s ultimate sacrifice toward the end. Diana’s look of despair and sorrow looked real. That’s when you know this film wasn’t playing around. Of course, the soundtrack and music were well-composed.

Overall, I enjoyed this movie despite the heavy flaws it has. This movie shows that despite all the sins and atrocities humanity has done over the centuries, there are still those who are not like the rest of the world and would do anything to make it a better place with pureness of heart. We must realize that there is goodness in everyone and never judge a book by its cover. I appreciate what this film was going for. Wherefore, I’ll officially give this an 8/10.

Peace!

Dr. Poison's also shows the damage her work does.

I’m glad that you enjoyed the film. Personally, I never saw anything wrong with the overall character interactions. 🤷🏻‍♂️But hey, your opinion’s your opinion.
