Well my computer just died...

It suddenly showed an error message, turned off and now refuses to boot up. :fluttercry:
(Writing this with my cellphone)

Trying to find a solution, but with how it isn't even showing anything on the screen I am not hopeful.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO:fluttercry::pinkiesad2:
Did you use Google Docs? you can access it on your phone.

Putain de bordel de merde !

Damn it.

I hope you have a way to keep the files.

Luckly I do keep a folder of my stories in a pen drive, so I won't lose anything if the worse comes to pass.
Trying to reset to factory standarts to see if that helps. At least the damn thing is turning on right now.
... still have no idea what could've happened.

If you like, I'd be happy to help with troubleshooting. Did you write down what the error message said? Was this entirely out of the blue? What were you doing before it crashed? Any details would be helpful in diagnosing the issue.

Discord Got to you.

I wish you luck in figuring this out

Glad to see I'm not the only one paranoid enough to save things in at least two places :pinkiecrazy:

Laptop or Desktop?

Desktops give you a bit more leeway about testing stuff. Laptops... you pretty much have no choice but to take them to service.

Ohh that sucks man I'm sure that really hurts when you're working on something and everything just completely gone I'm so sorry about that

Was opening my email, so yeah, completely out of the blue.
There was the microsoft blue screen of death and a warning that the system had found an error and had to be rebooted. Only the system did not reboot after turning off...
It seens to be holding for now, but I still have no idea what happened.
5568234
If not for that I would be so mad right now.
I'm having to restore everything from cloud and pen drives.
Not how I saw myself expending my friday afternon.

Thanks for the kind words.

I kept it saved in separate external files, but now I have to restore everything.
And I still have no idea what went wrong.

5568264
Well, at least if it's not just a software issue (which should be fixed if you're running a factory reset/windows restore), then it's at least (relatively) easier to diagnose what's failing.

5568279
That's my hope, since I have no idea what could've caused the crash.

Hope you can get this fixed soon. I lost some of my works a few years back when my laptop suddenly died, and while I recovered a bit of it and didn't lose anything I couldn't easily redo, I've been pretty cautious myself ever since.

It was Murphy to curse us all Wooo.
It's possible it wasn't Software Did you get the error Code?
if not Software it's possibly 4 things in order of Severity.
My mind went to 2 when you said it wouldn't even power on.
I didn't add Power supply to the list due to the fact error messages don't tend to pop up when they go bad.
1. The Cpu is going out.
2. Motherboard is having issues
3. One of the RAM cards is going out.
4. video card going out.

5568328
Really hope that's not it, but its possible since my computer is old...

5568328
I agree that these are the top 4 suspects if they can’t get anything on screen at all.

HDD/SSD failure, os corruption, driver issue, etc, you’d at least see it boot into BIOS, rather than be completely blank.

Yeah, there is clearly something wrong.
It took me multiple atempts to get the computer running today.
Once its going it works, but getting it to that point is problematic.

5568812
Hmm, sounds like a component failure. I'm not competent enough to diagnose beyond that, but there's definitely a piece of hardware in there that's no longer functioning consistently. How old is your PC?

5568896
A lot... I got it in 2007...

5568903
Jiminy Christmas, FOURTEEN YEARS?! Okay, I'm legitimately impressed that it's lasted this long. Knowing that, I'm honestly surprised that the RAM or motherboard didn't start failing sooner.

5569020
I don't tend to dowload stuff or do anything too strenous with it, so that probably helped a lot.
But I fear that its time may be coming to an end... an expense I wasn't planing for unfortunatly...

Yeah, computer is gone.
Didn't boot up and I smelled a faint burnt smell.
Already pulled it out of the power socket.
:twilightoops:

Will be limited to my phone to the next few days.

5569649
So What's the situation?
Going for a new Computer or going for a used or refurbished one?

5571366
Currently managed to borrow my old brother old laptop, so at least I'm not in a hurry.
I think I will have to buy a new pc. The initial inspection said it was the motherboard, and fixing it would pratically be half the price of a new computer. :applejackunsure:

5571518
Considering it's age yeah i can see that price.
I was honestly Joking about the Murphy bit didn't actually expect anything to happen.
Though expect some people bugging you about updates now that you have some access to a pc again.

It may be cheaper for you to build your own PC you have a case and a cd/dvd drive and a graphics card.
Depending on whether or not you use the PC for hard core Gaming if not.
You could get a motherboard cpu ram and a powersupply that could still play aaa games albeit with reduced Graphics for around 3 to 5 hundred dollars if you don't have to buy the Operating system as well.
Did even bother to mention a Graphics card because unless you want to sell a kidney they cant be had for love or money.

5571519
Murphy is always listening, and he is a contrary and vindictive god.
Unfortunatly I don't live in the USA, and so I have to consider around triple those prices. :twilightangry2:
But yeah, I will have to research and see if 'building' or buying is the best since I don't need a top 'gamer' computer or anything like that.
