    April Check in

Next chapter is crawling along. Not fast but it's growing every couple of days or so. Also not dead and no I am not doing the April 1 prank stuff. It's annoying to deal with when trying to communicate clearly.

This months recommended reading Demon world boba tea shop

    March check in

Still not dead, and some progress has been made on the next chapter. Not a lot, but some. How long it takes for some to become a completed chapter is anyone's guess at this point.

    January check in +scheduleing

Not dead, and currently plotting. I'm going to go back and reread my story and get familiar with it again. My other projects will be taking up most of my time for the next month or two, so I will try to start writing for this again sometime around March. How long from then till new content? I am not sure myself, but it will be on the way.

December Check in + status update

Still not dead, but you know that so let's peak behind the curtain a bit. A lot has been on my plate and I've been trying to hang on. Naturally, I've had to put real life before anything else and I've been focusing on other projects. As such I've not been working on Over the Edge, however, I'm likely going to be able to pick up the story again next year after I get a few things in order. Happy

August update · 12:58am Aug 3rd, 2021

So I'm going to be moving either this month or next. Minor progress on the fic has been made, but I wouldn't expect much for the time being.

SO!

To tide you all over, I have some story recommendations I'm going to drop along with these monthly updates. They aren't pony-related but I guarantee they're a good time.

First up:
BEWARE OF CHICKEN
https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/39408/beware-of-chicken
A story about a man brought to magic china where Cultivators Vie to defy the will of heaven and become immortal demigods. He takes one look at the scheming, backbiting, and general dickbaggery, and his response this "Fuck that noise, I'ma gonna go be a farmer."

Delightfully subversive without ruining the flavor of the Xianxia* world. Mellow and down to earth, a good relaxing read with some bright spots of action sprinkled here and there. There are some minor editing errors to be found, but they are rare, and such is life on the interwebs.

The reason I'm starting with this one is that it is by far my unabashed favorite. Happy Reading!

*For those who don't know what Xianxia is, it's a style of Chinese martial arts fantasy with powers mixed in. Think Superpowered kung fu movies where you increase your power level through meditation, revelations on the truth of the cosmos, and creating then eating medicine made from rare Ki infused herbs. Usually has lots of posturing, saving face, and generally selfish protagonists. Not a lot of that is to be found here though, and what remains is used well.

Any estimate on when the next chapter might be ready? And do you have a patreon?

Yes. Everyone should read beware of chicken. I saw it on spacebattles though. What's royal road like?

Sounds a lot like the manhwa Spirit Farmer that I’ve been reading and enjoying! Lee Geon Woo is an regular Korean man who desperately wants to be a “super human” (people with unique powers/abilities that help them delve into dimensional rifts referred to as “dungeons” for unique items and artifacts), but after years of testing has no abilities so he returns to working on his family’s farm with his aging parents. But as you can guess from the series’ title, he’s gonna find that normal farming isn’t what’s in his future.

The series too is a mellow read, and the characters/story is sugarbowl levels of sweet and cute! Perfect for us pony-enthusiasts. I mean, seriously, look at the pic below: It's diabetes inducing it's so adorable! :raritystarry:

So again, thanks for the recommend and hope you enjoy the one I just mentioned!

I've started reading this a while ago and I can also recommend it. It's amazing what having a decent person as a protagonist does to upend everyone's expectations.

I cant wait to see how Tigu'er does in the tournament.

Xianxia novels?

Oh, I didn't expect to see the hottest subject in our country here... It's really exciting, and I'm curious how you're going to play it out.

No estimate whatsoever. I don't have a Patreon, but I do have a Ko-Fi page: https://ko-fi.com/jwrites
I won't stop you from giving me money, but as I said before: You are just throwing money at a random person on the internet. It doesn't buy/entitle anyone to anything so I'd advise against it, but you do you.

Pretty good, updates there regularly. The site in general is pretty good. Though I haven't gone to the forums, so I'm not too familiar with that aspect.

Going to kick ass and take names I'll bet. Possibly accidentally spread the name of the Fa Ram a bit, maybe get everyone thinking it's some sort of hidden sect.

Xianxia has some interesting elements and makes for a fun time. Also, just for clarification, I'm not writing that story. Just a fan, just not sure what you mean when you say you're "curious how you're going to play it out."

Reading "Beware of Chicken" is especially nice after knowing Rain World game's lore.

5563949
care to elaborate? Haven't played that game

5563945
No, no, no, no, because I couldn't read it with the translation software, so I just assumed that you wrote the book.

Xianxia is one of the most popular subjects in China, and I read a lot of million-word xianxia novels when I was in high school.

5563955
Basically, the game operates on philosophy of "life is suffering" and that everyone should strive to ascend, where their suffering will finally end. The irony is, the life is suffering because others before destroyed the ecology for sake of computations of "safe ascension" problem.

do you think Gou ren and Xiulan will get together?

5563958
Ok, now I understand. Also not surprised to hear it's popular, my gut tells me it's going to blow up in a similar way to the isekai genre. Gonna get real popular soon. I wonder how the LitRPG genre would play out to a Chinese audience since it possesses similar elements.

5563959
Ah, and with Jin doing his thing and making the world a better place... Yeah, I can see it now.

5564021
Honestly, I think it's going to be a coin flip, if Xiulan's dad is impressed with Gou it might happen, it's also possible we might get some eloping action, but I doubt it. The author is good enough that while either option is good, I think they will surprise us with either a third even better option, or present what happens in a fresh way.

Just finished reading the latest chapter of Beware of Chicken, and it's incredible! Thanks for your recommendation!
